Hi all,
i am Newbie, i am trying locate the alarm horn on my Audi A4 saloon 1.9tdi year 2000(W).
Appreciate with pictures and instructions please
thanks in advance.

Its on the drivers side on all B5's after '98ish

Open the cubby hole, lift out the central locking pump (its encased in a big block of foam) and look down and you'll see the siern tucked up against the chassis rail.

Thanks, i take it that the "cubby hole" is in the boot?

yeh, on a saloon you need to pull the carpet/boot lining up to get at it. Avants have a hatch thing.

I notice your nearby, so if you need it scanned you can pop round and i'll take a look at it for you.

Cheers, when are you available to scan ? PM me with details. In the meantime i had a look in the boot, there is black plate (12" diameter) which is bolted down on the boot floor near rear set NS, is this where the alarm horn is.

well i'm away from home until monday, but any time after that really.

The circle youve found is the fuel pump hatch.

If you look on the right hand side (drivers) of the boot, theres a little pocket thing, and the access hatch for the light cluster. You need to pull that whole carpet side/thing out and you should see the central locking pump encased in a big block of foam. Carefully lift that out, and the siren is down in the cavity.

I have had my A4 1.8t sport quattro for 5 years now and did not even realise there is an alarm horn - I have never heard the alarm go off or know how to set it, I am assuming the batteries are perhaps dead ? after reading the write up - something more for me to investigate and play with !!

It should set automatically when the car is locked. The horn has gone on ours, but the lights still flash if the alarm is set off . One of these days I shall replace the batteries !!

Yeah, then internal batteries die/corrode. some have replaced the battery, others the unit...

there is a "beep" available upon locking/arming too, but needs to be enabled in VCDS

definately no beep.... her car and she doesn't like noises like that -- probably why I've been able to get away with not replacing the batteries for a number of years..... and nobody looks when an alarm goes off do they...!!

Not these ones anyway. Got to be the most pathetic car alarm I've ever heard lol
