Aircon pump fail??

Hi,

Got to work this morning, car lumpy. Nice man from AA came out and agrees that aircon pump or clutch on aircon pump has failed. Car seems fine with aircon turned off.....

Aido want £1200 to fit (luckly my local dealer is very good and gave sound advice), its a 2 hour fit but obviously I need the part.

Any recommendations as to where to get one from ? SHort term I will fit a shorter belt to keep me on the road !

Help much appreciated.

I fitted mine my self.
Car on ramps and 2 hours or so later its fitted.
Drove it to the AC garage and got it gassed up.

I bought a 2nd hand pump for £60, £40 gas totaled to £100.
That was 2 years ago now.

Looks like I can get a compressor for under £150. Reading the ElsaWIn guide for the V6 it doesnt look terribly easy, seems to read take bumper off and move engine forward to service position yikes......

Lost of cars use the same pump, simply swap over the pulley.

Looked at that, problem is I need my car for work so quite keen to get it sorted this weekend and I cant even get to the pump without bumper off and the whole service position thing which looks time consuming......

have an air con pump off a 1.8t 2002 model,{breaking my car for parts} should get to the pump from underneath but would be easier with bumper and radiators out the way, not to big a job I would say about 4 hours total.

I ordered one online from breakers for £123 inc vat and delivery. Got a local recommended independent fitting it for me on Monday so fingers crossed all be sorted next week.

Don't worry about the service position, it really is quite easy, for once Haynes detail it quite well, takes about 20 mins and you'll need two lengths of M8 studding from memory, about 250mm long..
