Is it me or is it actually becoming more difficult to find free air...the convertible has been sitting around for a couple of weeks and one of the tyres suffers from a slow puncture. So considering it was being used today, I thought I would check it. All the garages around me have the digital pumps that requires a minimum spend of 50p. Because two of the tyres had recently been replaced and the others were checked at the same time, I went to Asda where they had a conventional press and hold system. The problem is that's now been replaced by a digital unit and they want a minimum of 20p spend!

if only could use the air we breath...for free...or is it?!

It's a simple way of keeping maintenance of the minority not looking after the kit. So the charge pays for the repair bills and a bit extra

It's probably also partly paying for the machine and installation.

Foot pump FTW! :)

Funnily enough I gave away my cigarette lighter powered tyre pump just before I bought the convertible because I wasn't using it:keule:

I really need to get the other 2 tyres replaced. There is plenty of tread left on them, but I have been advised that the tyres are nearly 9 years old and was recommended that they shouldn't be more than 3-4 years old. The way you can tell is by finding the DOT stamp on the side wall, then follow the text around until you see an oval with a 4 digit number. The first two numbers is the week and the last two, the year. So 5009 would be the 50th week (December) of 2009.

To make matters worse the family wagon also needs two new tyres which are more than twice the price of the convertible. So in essence, I should be buying 6 new tyres in the month! What I am trying to do is monitor the convertible tyres for now to try and spread the cost over the next couple of months.

Foot pump for £7 in Asda? 20p to pump the tyres up? You will need to go and check your tyre pressure at Asda 35 times before you have spent £7.

If you're upset over paying 20 pence for compressed air to put in your tires then running two Audi's is probably the wrong choice of transport for you; a Fiat Panda or something might be more manageable financially. :p

I've got one of the fag lighter pump kits, they work really well. Mine came out of the bonnet of a 911 and puts 34psi into a flat tire within a minute. :)

Now there's an idea, there must be some of those dodgy pandas with the roof sawn off somewhere...the wife would love it!

All of the Sainsburys petrol stations I have been to down here in Kent are free...every other petrol station charges though

As above, I have noticed that nearly all of teh garages etc charge now, all expect Sainsburys.

I normally just go to a local tyre place and they just do it straightaway....I even went to Kwik Fit last week and they did it for free there as well.

Our local Sainsburys doesn't have a petrol station and the other is the next junction along the M4. I will have to try Morrisons next time I'm heading to town
