Mate of mine suggested him to me as I can't help but feel my Superchip under delivers. He recons he can do me a tweeked map to give 15psi and write/fit the chip for attractive money.

Anybody used them/him? He seems to know his onions

Never heard of him.

Finding people that actually have the ability and resources to properly map these cars is hard, most "tuners" are just flash jockeys writing on someone elses file. Even those who arent, often only work on the later flashable ECU's, as all the effort of soldering in new chips is too much hassle. I dont know how true it is, but rumor has it that the flash chips used on the old 557 ECU's are long since discontinued, and getting hold of one will be the biggest issue for anyone trying to tune it.

I've heard good things about Nick at RTech with these older ECU's and also Rick from Unicorn seems to know his stuff too, but if you think this guy knows his stuff and seems local then you might as well give it a go?

Got no problems obtaining these chips, certainly wasn't an issue when I had the Superchip written. He was making the right noises to my albeit minimal mapping knowledge. And my friend who recomended him is reasonable at DIY mapping from the results seen at Evolve and their operators comments. Looking to bring th eboost to the 15psi mark from the current 11-12psi and ensure the fueling is correct. Got access to a mates wideband lambda so it can be checked on the fly

I did try RTech but they didn't pick up and they never responded to my e-mail query. They either want the business or they don't, I guess they didn't.

I had a hard time trying to find a good proper co to accept my tuning job, only ones so far that have spoke and helped with ideas are Regal Autosport and Rick @ Unicorn, both seem to know the older ECU and will be my choice when i finally get round to doing mine.

Aye.

Have a chat with Rick from Unicorn, surprised you dont know him from passionford, hes been around there for yonks.

Emailing Rtech is never going to work as they never really respond due to being insanely busy. Trust me keep phoning or try them on Facebook. It's worth it! They want your business they're just rushed off their feet all day everyday!

Yes mate, i was surprised aswell as i knew them from way back in Vauxhall circles, they cover a lot of VAG and Porsche stuff now.

Be wary mate, I've seen a few of their maps do hideous things. We had a chap at an RR day with a freshly mapped allegedly 240bhp Corsa VXR it struggled 210 and was detting like mad. Owner was a bit of a bell end and insisted the operator ran the car even after having the run aborted for fear of damaging the engine

Hi, I've used Simon Coe twice in the past 8 years, both times he replaced the ECU chips in B5 110 Tdi's; great person to deal with and certainly knows his business, transformed the cars, one manual the other auto giving me both power and economy, concerning reliability both are now 300k + and still going strong. P.S. Only connection with Simon is as a very satisfied customer. Robert.

Greaqt to hear, thanks for posting. I liked his honesty on the phone and he seemed to know his bit. As I've found out in the past sounding like you know the bit and actually knowing aren't the same so want to be certain before I eek more out of my tank.

Thanks for heads up, i always heard good things about them TBH, but i suppose everybody has some negative points from past.

Rick is actually less of a travel for me over Regal, so was considering this to maybe a deciding factor, i'll be giving him a shout again when i get the chance to do the conversion.

Any company that can't be ***** answering the phone or answering emails deserve to go under.

Erm far from it. Its not that they cant be ***** its due to them not having the quantity of staff to keep up with everything. Most companies are the same. They try to email asmuch as they can but they`re solid booked for 6 weeks to show how busy they are. They cant answer every single phone call and email. I cant at the VW dealer..so should we go under? The company you work for answer every single phone call? I bet thats a no too so you should go under too! Penis..

If Rtech went under then basically one of the best 1.8t tuners in the country would be gone. Not that they ever would with the sheer work load and amazing work they do.

I sorta see his point though, its about customer service. Hire a receptionist to answer the phone if your too busy to answer it, or stick voicemail on or use a call answering service.

What i find funny, is when companies say "dont email i'm too busy, call instead", yet answering a phone requires you to stop what your doing and pickup a receiver and talk right there and then. An email you can take care of at any time.

I think some companies view email enquiries as people who arent really interested, but for me, if i'm contacting someone i know is busy, and the enquiry isnt urgent, i'd much rather send an email and let them respond in their own time, rather than force them to stop what they're doing to answer my phone call.

I have to agree with Jason, Nick is rediculously busy every time im up there... so much infact, its often easier for me to drive to Hinckley from coventry than to ring him. For me though, there's no one better for VAG :)

Ermm... actually my company does answer every single phone call and email enquiry. Sorry for being a penis.

I've had the same experience with Rtech as Oranoco, never reply to email, or answer the phone, hence they lost a customer (albeit a penis they could do without).
