Hill Hold Assist VCDS Mod

Saw this thread and went out and tried it on my MY2009 - Although the checkbox was there to enable it and the controller accepted the coding - it threw a ESP Fault on the dash along with flashing TC and ABS light.

The error related to the longitudinal (spl) sensor which I'm guessing tells the car its on a hill .. Oh well :)

Unlike you lot who need to enable it to do a successful hill start, I can do it without electronics ;)

Shame it didn't work. I find it really useful it even works in reverse which is handy when I have to reverse up the slope to my garage.

Shame the Porsche that nearly rolled back into me on a huge hill near Amersham didn't have it!! Cheap mod that should come standard. It does in my mate Punto!!

Is it possible to turn HHA off via VCDS? I had a good look the other day but couldn't see any option to do this, even in long coding.

Just a quick one. Am I right in the understanding that if your car has TPMS active (which my S3 does) the car should have the correct ABS controller to enable HHA. I would go out and plug in VCDS and do a scan but the heavens have opened up again and the rain is bouncing off the floor.

Brodster, which TPMS do you have? Reset with a switch or through the DIS?

If its the latter, there are a few of us, trying to work out how to enable it. (Cruiser89, Silky, NHN, and myself)

Discussed Here

http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-sportback-8p-chassis/159972-tpms-via-dis-vcds-mod.html

and here

http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-...12-coding-issues-vcds-users-please-check.html

Do you think you might be able to help us with the log/coding of the ABS module with VCDS from your car?

We have been waiting for a car with it from factory to pop up!

Thanks

Paul.

Hi Paul. Car is a 2012 S3, TPMS enabled and reset thro the DIS. Yes mate Im happy to assist so let me know what you want....if its easier gimme a ring 07837 954862 and let me know what you need. I have VCDS and relatively competent with it.

Can you email me a full autoscan of your car please mate, also do a controller adaptation log of some modules & output it to a csv file, for modules 16, 03, 01, 17, 09 & 19.

Thanks in advance :)

Thank You Brodster! :beerchug:

NHN has more knowledge and experience and more chance of knowing what we are likely to need. Please can you send the info to him.

Nigel. For my future reference and in helping you with my ABS module that we share, how would i do a "controller adaption log" ?
I am just used to autoscan logs at present.

Cheers

Paul

My 2012 S3 with DSG has this enabled. I like it on a straight but on the flat it's a bit annoying

Me too :) I'm definitely interested in TPMS with reset via DIS. At the moment I'm having to reset my 7K6 TPMS via VCDS Basic Settings 042, so a DIS reset would be very welcome!

Thanks Nigel.

Enabled Hill Hold Assist on my Manual MY11 S3 earlier today , so just TPMS with DIS to master now.

Activation of Hill Hold Assist.

Controller 03(ABS)

Mine engages on the flat as it's DSG so it stops creep. Maybe thats not the HHA but the principle seems the same.

So how/when exactly does it hold the car?

Keep me updated guys, would be sweet to get DIS TPMS sorted!

Thanks Nigel.

I will try this tomorrow to see if it works. Nige I will also get the info you require to progress with the invest.

Right then peeps. HHA is now enabled on my S3 with no faults/warnings and it works........cheers for that. The only thing I have found with it is it releases quite early when on an incline. Dont know if this is how it is but I thought it would of held for longer until the revs were higher or the torque increased thro the wheels. NHN....I have taken all the adaptation maps for the respective modules you were after in CSV format. Have emailed everything off to you including up to date scan of my car. Hope this helps. If you require any more assistance then just PM me mate.

Thanks Brodster.

I found HHA just holds it long enough to get back on the throttle without flaffing about with finding biting point. Much easier crawling in traffic when on an incline.

Thanks Paul, s-tronic cars don't seem to have the checkbox in the ABS module.

I can alter the sensitivity of it though, but would actually like to turn it off completely to see what it's like.

I have HHA factory fitted on my 57-reg manual.

I'm guessing that means when I finally get round to fitting my TPMS switch, I'll be using pin 41 not pin 27?

Is this possible on my car (manual 2010 A3 Sportback - see signature)? When I purchased the car I specifically remember this feature being listed on the Audi listing for my car but it definitely doesn't seem to have it. Unless I'm not "engaging" it properly - I'm under the impression that it activates automatically when you hold the brake for a couple of seconds.

TPMS & HHA come down to 2 things, 1st if the modules supports it 2nd coding, you'll need to attempt coding to see if module supports either.

How did I miss this beauty??? Gonna give that a try later for sure :)

Got TPMS sorted so now I want this :p

you have ABS unit BH if I remeber good :slapped:

HHA work with BJ Abs unit ( for yours year model)

Or A3 with:
PARK assist ,DSG or 4x4

but this for news model ABS unit( with G 251 Sensor ) from AH..... last is BL

Bump. A few of us are trying to enable TPMS with the DIS, any chance of a walk through the process. Many Thanks.

Its actually down to the ABS controller installed on your car, not all had it, I was going to upgrade mine to see if would work, but at £450 for a controller alone, I thought urm maybe not (yet)
Is there any way of knowing do I have the right ABS controller on MY2009 S3, maybe by chassis number? Because I don't want to hassle my mechanic to bring the VCDS from work if I don't have the right ABS controller..

Audi have stopped denoting abs controllers within parts catalogue with there abilities, so it really is down to vcds & attempt coding.

So how/when exactly does it hold the car?

It holds it all the time when stationary - delys the creep for around a second or so but in doing so adds to the delay in the car moving forward, and also often causes it to jerk slightly.

Still trying to find a way to turn auto HHA off on s-tronic cars (they do not come with the HHA checkbox)

Hi mate,

Mine isn't jerky! But I've seen a few options in VCDS for: Light, Normal & Heavy settings, all triggered by throttle\rpm amount.

Have you checked the adaptation setting?

@Silky: You sure of those values for light/medium/heavy? Got VCDS telling me something else:

So if my interpretation of the above is correct, using the "early" value my hill hold should be less intrusive, i.e. more eager to let go under lower revs?

This is what Im after as mine holds for about 2-3 secs on an incline which I want to increase. When I release my foot off the brake without any RPM it will hold for the stated time and then release. I will try this and let you all know if it works.

Yeah, iI've set mine to light (which helped), but I really want to turn it off all together and see what it's like!

BTW, when I say jerky I actually meant I can feel the HHA snap off which causes the car to lurch fwd ever so slightly (doesn't do it all the time).
