Right guys i'm sure this has been covered before, but here we go, at this minute in time i have a standard 210bhp AMK S3, the question i have is this, im looking for a little more power, so what gains can i expect from a re-map, is it reliable, who should i use, how much shold it be, is the standard bottom end and top end etc strong enough to take it? Looking for someone knowledgable to come and explain it all to me!

Hi Gregor, The gains from a 210 will be awesome.... i would say to get it remap ready is:

full service..and thats it, if the car feels healthy it will be ok...

Extras that would benefit......
1. B5 TIP
2. JETEX Airfilter
3. 007/8 valve not needed but for longevity
4. FMIC
5. 3" Downpipe....
6. Decent Manni

All will see you well on the way to stage 2 ....

hope this helps

Thanks for the advise s3dave, what is a B5 Tip?? i keep hearing people talk about them!
Would it be ok to run the remap alone without manifolds and filters etc? if i was to just run a map until i get some more money together (just paid for a re-paint on my S3) is the list just to start making way for a stage 2 etc? what power can i expect from just re-mapping the car?

I can see that never ending cycle...... Just starting.... Hope you've got plenty of cash Gregor....lol
You,ll need it....

In case any one else is interested, spent the day up there and REVO is at Edition 38 this weekend an they are doing 20% of all remaps!!

Hummm... having a Revo and the discount is fine (I believe this is not just restricted to the show and is running through September) but... get the car mapped somewhere with a dyno who will log the car before the remap and while doing the remap... at the very least they should road log the car first and any mapper that doesn't do this should be avoided...

These cars are getting on and the engines (even if you may think so) are not what they used to be... I have seen loads of cars come in that on the face of it look fine but have pulled timing due to excessive oil blow by on rings and/or turbo issues and have had other issues too such as minor leaks in the vac pipes and all the other issues like this that plague all 20v VAGs

Just whacking a map on without checking it first via logging the basics (airflow, timing pull and boost) to establish a base line is just a crazy idea...

Also make sure you run a decent fuel... V-Power or similar... you will never get the best from 95ron...

Revo maps can be quite aggressive and will show up poor clutches and coil packs... be prepared to change them... Stage 1 maps generally net between 240hp to 255hp depending on health of the engine etc... Stage 2 really requires the kit Dave has already mentioned as this doesn't so much give you power as such as keep the engine running cooler so the increase in power can be maintained rather than dropping off as it will when everything gets hot... IATs are generally the biggest issue on std setups with a stage 1 as the SMICs are rubbish and heat soak quickly... IATs rise and don't recover so the ECU pulls back load and timing to compensate

Stage 2 maps normally run a bit more boost and a bit more timing to lift the mid range power ... K04's are pretty much flat out around the 270hp mark on most of the std mods but using a new turbo and a few other tweaks plus aggressive tuning they can hit 300hp... not that you would want to run it that hard that long..

With all the mods Dave mentioned and a decent map 280hp is doable
