Hi,

Looking to upgrade my symphony unit in my tdi cab with an rns-e, want to keep factory look etc
but have seen after market unit on ebay with factory look etc with touch screen, bluetooth, freeview tv etc etc
Don't normally like aftermarket at all, but this one looks quite good?! Looks oem at first glance.

Running pioneer avic f930bt its really good apart from the loading up speed , the extras on it also great , you have spend quite high to get a decent sat nav, If you don't need sat nav you can always get a double din touch screen there ssome good ones available , you will also need some new cables depending if your running Bose or not

Hello mate. I have got that exact unit that you are looking at. I have had mine for about 3-4 months now. I absolutely love it, it is fantastic. I know the OEM police are going to come on here shortly and slate it but for me, it does everything the OEM does and more.. for a fraction of the price. I have had no issues at all with the unit since owning it, everything is working really well. The quality of the bluetooth phone is excellent, iPod playback is really good and offers loads of options (play by artist, genre, playlist etc).

The navigation is really good, works wonderfully and even does stuff like fading your music to the rear speakers when the navi is giving you instructions on where to turn etc.

I bought mine from a company in Liverpool called icebox auto, they are on eBay. I paid about £350 ish for mine and they import the unit for you so you dont have to pay any import taxes, they also offer a 1 year warranty with the unit.

If you have any more questions just let me know, i can give you my number and you can give me a ring if you want to chat about it more.

Hiya mate do u have any pics of this installed, seams like a smart little unit with more to offer than the oem, the tv tuner instests me aswell

Thanks

I have the same one as Oddie from Icebox Auto in Liverpool (manufacturer is called Witson and the link to the product is directly below): AUDI A4----ZHUHAI WITSON INDUSTRIAL CO.,LTD.---Professional Car DVD Player Manufacturer

Not perfect, it runs on ageing windows platform in an age when we are used to slick smartphone OS but it looks good installed (as if it were always there) and has all the basic functionality, including, crucially, steering wheel controls for MFSW.

Im at work so cant post any pics just now.

EDIT: forgot to say that it really is good value for money, but not perfect (i get a little bit of alternator whine from my Cabby and the TV function is analogue so no longer works in the UK). Dont be afraid to risk it and Rob at Icebox auto is very friendly and helpful.

NOTE: Unless you are an experienced in-car electrician i would avoid trying to fit this unit on your own (even if you have done it once or twice before). I screwed mine up trying on my own initially.

Thanks for the info! that unit looks a little different, does is it not have a touch screen?
audiosources one looks very factory and i think a touch screen has got to be more intuative to use than the clunky oem system?!
Is the led rns-e an 800mhz processor?!

this shows the 'g' variant with the higher speed ARM processor, it looks the same as the 533mhz but the screen icons are bit more detailed/colourful

Well i bought mine a few months back and did extensive research although i must say i came across a few variants but not sure i saw one that resembled the RNS-E unit so well. The one i have is modelled on the standard VAG group OEM look so its as you would see in say a Golf/Scirocco or something like that. To be honest, the plastic colours match my car perfectly as do the red led backlights.

I have an additional DVB-T digital tv tuner (bought from supplier) to overcome the analogue TV issue but wish i had got the more powerful tuner as mine is weak. Truth be told it is seriously easy to add one of these to the aux later on (unless you want to use that for something like a reversing camera which i also go with my unit).

The screen on my unit is actually very good. Yes it is full touchscreen although an older capacitive style rather than an iphonesque multi touch jobby. As i say it works well and i can see it ok even with my roof down on a bright day.

None of these chinese units will link to your DIS though i dont think so be advised you will lose that function.

GPS comes complete with maps and good software, no problems there.

Like i say, as with most chinese made electronic products, they often look better than they work or in fact are, but compared with other options on the market and at this price point i thought this was the best route to go down given i am driving an older vehicle that may well cost me plenty in other areas!

I will try and post some images for you later if i get the chance.

Here is the youtube channel for icebox auto rt010775's channel - YouTube

Theres a number of videos showing different units with different OS variants. I have seen a few of these now (seems most VAG group european taxis are getting them installed) so they are all often just variations on the same theme.

If you have the dosh, i would point you in the direction of an android powered device: dynavin

I will go and take some pictures of my unit now and get them uploaded. Hi2Gav, your unit is a lot different to mine by the looks of things. Like i said earlier, i am really impressed with mine and haven't had any issues with it.

Chillo, one thing i would say is that installation of mine was really really easy. Hi2Gav, again your unit must be drastically different to mine and then one that Chillo is looking at because mine was really easy to install, it was all plug and play.

Ok here are the pictures of mine.

I really like it, obviously i am biased but i think it looks the part. Installation is really straight forward as well, you get a loom in the box with a big quad lock connector on that you plug into your audi loom (it just clips in and locks together). Then the rest is plug and play, you really would struggle to get it wrong

like it alot, spesh the idea of reversing camera and all that :)

yes, looks really good! the fact it looks oem at first glance is what wins it for me, I have a factory rns-e on my tt roadster and the nav/os etc is ok but not brilliant, a touch screen unit would be better and if it also has bluetooth, tv, ipod, sdhc card and integrates with dis then whats not to like?!

I have found another unit that is 7" touch screen with all the above features for £319 + p&p on the bay, assuming there will be import charges (£80 approx). I'm trying to find a bit more info on the unit, processor/manufacturer etc It has 2 sd card slots on front lower right side

integrates with dis
Please can someone post pictures of what's shown on the DIS by this unit?

Do you get the mini navigation instructions, or just radio/MP3 information?

I have never got the DIS to integrate with my unit. I have read somewhere that some people have been able to get it to integrate, but i have never been able to. To be honest after a while i just got used to it and don't really notice it now.

Don't worry about it, it really isn't that difficult. You will get two main wiring looms with the kit but you only need to use one, not entirely sure why they send two. You need to use the one with the quad lock handle connector on it, this just clips into your current audi wiring loom and then locks together via the handle.

From there all the wiring is dead straight forward. Just need to run the iPod and USB into the glovebox, run the GPS antenna up behind the glovebox as well, and then connect everything else at the back of the unit up.

I didn't opt for the tv tuner with mine so i can't help with that, sorry mate. If you get stuck you can give me a ring if you want, more than happy to help you out.

Cheers for the reply Oddie. I will probably take you up on that, where are you based? Was having difficulty finding the correct head unit removal keys so just popped into Audi and got them to slide it out for me!

Tackling it tomorrow with a mate so fingers crossed! I take it the GPS signal is sufficient from being located under the dash behind the glove?

I had an iPod kit fitted a few weeks ago (soon to be for sale!) and the iPod cable i got installed so it comes out under the armrest, will try the same tomorrow but don't want to start farting around with all the interior trim. Also, does the iPod function charge like my current on the head unit?

Hi

I am also looking at getting one of these but have notices that on the ebay ad it says that if you have a BOSE system installed you will need an auto electrician to do some modifications. Does any one know what these modifications are as I am sure that I could atempt it myself ???

Thanks

I love the idea of these over the RNS-E, more functions, less cost!

Sorry to bring an old thread back to life, I currently have a single din what would I need other than a double din cage to get one of these working in the car?

Ive just bought the same nav unit as you from Ice Box and fitting it in my A38P Non Bose. Connected up the loom with the Quad Lock and all works fine, except the rear speakers. Any other wiring I should be doing?
