Ive had my smf loba clutch installed for few weeks now.. It rattles at idle.. Its not tht load so im ok with it..
Ive noticed since the new clutch, when i accelerate in 2nd/3rd upto high revs and just let go.. I can hear that same rattle that i hear at idle but very load and at quicker intervals.. Should i be worried or is this something i need to live with now too?

Thanks

With a SMF setup, you can expect a lot more gnashing and general noise.

Mine(a Spec) does rattle at idle, but under load is generally smooth.

Don't worry mate mine did this. I actually rang LOBA to ask them about it after a couple of months and Darius at LOBA has an S3 with this kit installed and that does it. It seems this is a trait of the clutch. Mine either quietened down after a few months of I just got used to it as I never noticed any noise from it after a while. Damn I miss that car :(

Thanks

I dont mind the noise if its the norm with smf setup.. I expected it to be load at idle just wasnt sure about it making the noise when im driving and let the car slow down the rev range..

I thought maybe a bad install

The other possibility is gearbox wear.

Mine was rebuilt last year as it was whining a bit and the selector forks plus 1st through 3rd gears were worn as was the transfer box.

Just a thought.

I just had mine in (big thanks to Si for all the help) and its very quiet at idle compared to many other SMF kits i have heard i have to say.

Although i do hear chatter a little, its nothing that im concerned about. I hear more chatter/sound when i am off accel (say from 3rd to 2nd for example) But with a kit like this you do have to expect some sort of noises.

I just had my gearbox rebuilt and also USP Motorsports Steel Shifter Forks put in!

i DID notice though i must say, that on Saturday after we put in the VWR Engine Mount Kit that the noises are more evident but what can you do! Very solid and would recommend anyone to do this to the S3. Feels much better to drive if you have a stage2+ tune

Gearbox wear.... Why u gotta get me on the para now -.-

The thing is,when you put a lot more power and torque through the box,you must expect some trade-off in terms of wear, and as fuzion has said, when you add an SMF to a car with uprated mounts(mine has the VWRacing mounts, but I don't know about yours),then you can expect a lot more general harshness to get through.

I also put int he VWRacing Mounts and did notice more harmonics coming through but the comparison from the OEM mounts to the vwr ones what do you expect.

Its the quietest SMF kit i have heard in a vag car.

I've got the Loba installed on mine and so far no noises....
A week after install I got the test it out at Brands and give it a beating, and so far it's been great.

How many miles have you put on it?

About 1k.. Im suprised you have no noise.. At idle mine sounds like a tractor

Mine drives well, with little extra noise on the run,but like yours, can sound like a tractor at idle.

Mine sounded like a tractor at times, but not always which was strange. I found if I was sat at a standstill with the clutch disengaged then it would sound quite loud, but dip the pedal and let it out slowly and it would quieten down. It is just a small side effect, the ability to use all the power is more than worth it :)

Much the same here.....sometimes it's not too noisy, but dipping the clutch and letting it back slowly will quieten it.

I'll do a vid tomorrow if I can and post on YouTube so you can hear it. See what you think.
