Homemade axle bush removal tool! (who's made one id like some help)

Hello Peep's

Basically as titled , This is my first car im responsable for the up keep as ive always had company car and the only way im gunna learn is to actually sort the issue myself and rather paying someone to do it, treat myself the all the equipment required within reason.Ive had the cambelt done and changed the dv as the oem was old, now its time for the rear axle bushes and i really would like to do them myself and without dropped the rear have any of you guys made your own removal / insertion tools if so mind sharing . i want to save the money on the labour so i can get the rust done before the track day at brands

All ideas tip's welcome as im sick of it feeling like ive im driving with flat tyres

They are not easy to remove and realistically a ****** to get back in too... I have cut them out before now and used a proper tool to press them back in...

You have to drop the axle a bit to get to the bushes...

I would advise you to invest in a Haynes manual tbh... for 15 quid it will save you loads...

Hi ya Tuffty thanks for the quick reply ive just got a haynes and it say's to drop the axle same as you have said but says for my year to replace the whole rear axle which i thought was a little diverting ,ive read it could be done with the tool without dropping ,i am happy to remove the rear axle im just worried about the brake lines being damage ( not going to remove) worried about the stress or calipers getting knocked and pulling on the hardlines. is this a straight forward job dropping the rear down ? one person able to do it ?

You need to undo the brakelines... its the only way to make sure you don't damage the lines...

I have access to a lift ramp and gear box support jack so it was relatively easy... you would need a jack and a couple of pairs of axle stands I would imagine...

The Haynes should be able to guide you in dropping the axle...

Not sure of the exact bush you need but there are a few on eBay

You need to undo the brakelines... its the only way to make sure you don't damage the lines...

Sweet your a star ! im going to just allow a few days just in case and take my time that way all sould go well. ive seen the bushes i want there listed above so just the labour i have to over come.

Hi ya Fella

Ive had a little run around today and have worked out id have to do the job at my parents and maybe have to do it in two days which im not to happy on doing plus the tools i still need to get have added up to a bit. i had a few quotes today and a local chap with a very good rep has quoted me 150 with parts 80 quid with me buying the febi bushes that tuftty recomended. i think im gunna bite his arm off for that kinda money save me the hassle had a few quotes of 210 and 250. im happy to do some smaller jobs until i rent a double garage where id be happier to leave the car on longer job's
