Hey guys..

So I was toying with the idea of not even posting this but... Most on here are a sympathetic bunch, so thought I'd scrape the courage and post.

0380cc68.jpg

So here is the scenario...

Just filled the car up with fuel and was coming out of Tesco. Saw there was an old S-Reg BMW about 5 car spaces up ahead turning left. I started looking right and there was some dirty Saxo with HIDs blinding the shiz out of me and temporarily got distracted. By this point I assumed the BMW had left the "quiet" junction. He hadn't. Slammed on the breaks and tried to move, ABS goes crazy, start skidding as the road was wet and bang. Hit his rear end.

It was my fault and I held my hands up. Should have been more cautious. In hindsight we all would have done.

I have worked very hard over the last few years to enjoy things like my car which is my pride and joy. as you can understand I'm very annoyed and upset with myself. Main thing though is that nobody got hurt, I was just a bit shaken by it all.

BMW is about £500 worth of damage and my car is gonna be over the £2k mark. Not gonna go through the insurance as I can't afford to lose my NCB.

One thing I would say, to those who have HIDs please get it done correctly with ballasts and projectors. I'm not whole hatred ly blaming this Saxo driver but if I hadn't of been dazzled, It may have been a different outcome.

Every cloud has a silver lining though, iv spec'd up with the repair centre for an RS3 grill (hopefully).

Love to all...

Sorry to hear that bro....Seems like a lot of people Are having accidents due to poor visibility with these dark nights and dark days where having. Hope it gets sorted . :icon_thumright:

Ouch, sorry to see that mate but at least you are ok. Hope it gets restored to original condition soon.

Thats a real shame about the damage to your car, it can be fixed though. I know you were so excited to get it, and now this, but the important thing is that it can be sorted and that your ok. Keep smiling.

see the dam aftermarket hid's strike again curse all those who have them lol , soz to see that happen to your baby mate but like you say no one got hurt so thats the main thing it can be repaired so could have be worse hope you get it back all shiny and new again (with added RS3 grill) keep us posted mate

So sorry to hear this, Fella. Your poor car and poor you, ..main thing is that no one was injured though :(. Still, you'll hopefully have it back good as new again very soon, ..maybe even with a lovely new RS3 grille! Take care  xx

Sorry to hear, good thing your ok. Itll be back and looking great before you know it mate.

i feel your pain but ! you are ok thats the main thing parts can be replaced ppl cant

Thanks guys :)

Exactly... Parts can be replaced.

Got my final estimate. £2982. Cheapppp. Ha.

Lose my car for 2 weeks. Get the joy of driving my girlfriends V-reg 1.4 fiesta. Slow.....

Sorry to hear this fella.

You sure its not better going through the insurance though?? Its going to cost you about £3.5k by the time you've fixed your car and his. Surely your insurance won't jump up by that sort of money. And how much NCB do you lose for an accident?? Two years??

Okkkk... So got a bit of an update. I have been quoted by an Audi Approved repairer just short of £3k to get my car looking all shiney and new. Sooo parts to replace:

Im pretty sure im gonna go for an RS3 grill to replace my current broken one.

Any feedback would be great :)

i feel for you mate, but yh i would agree with Ads and go through insurance on this one... the cost of the repairs is going to be pretty high. also if you get the insurance to put the car into your choice of garage you can still have the RS3 grill installed once you sort out a deal with the garage.
good luck mate.

I would defo go via insurance surely the cost of this would not compare to the costs of higher insurance unless you would be deemed uninsurable after this incident...

What you have to watch out for is the 3rd party doesn't start to be a c*%# about getting a courtesy car etc while theirs is being repaired or reporting to his insurance then putting in a claim to these ****** personal injuries no win no fee company's who could in turn end up hounding you looking for compensation, which your insurance company would probably not pay out as you have not notified them in x amount of days.

I have become uninsurable by some insurance firms due to the amount of non fault incidents, 8 counted in the past 4 years even the police crashed into me. Point I'm trying to make there will always be an insurance company that will insure you.

I just got my car back from the bodyshop after some idiot of a drunk driver smashed into the back of mine 2 months oldat the time so I feel your pain mate...

But as above always a silver lining a new RS3 grill would be cracking...

Ash

looks like the car done its job well and kept you nice and safe , I'm guessing it wasn't a fast enough speed for the airbag/s to go off then , good luck sorting matey hope its comes back all lovely and new again

:slapped: holly **** thats bad, feel for you buddy, had few chances to crash into something in the same way dazzled by some fking ***** with the aftermarket HIDs thats why I hate them so much had to stop for 10-15 sec the other day as I couldnt see a shizzle.

if you are good with finding your way around ebay and gumtree, that should not cost as much.
its your headlights that would be the most expensive part from what i can see.
a rough break down of the parts would be the headlights if the brackets on the other is intact.
one headlight minus bulb and ballast new might be alot less than £500.
or you can buy a second hand set for £500 on ebay and sell your complete one and parts from rthe damaged one.

front panel new (£175 from the stealers)
a bonnet £200 or less (there is an orange one on ebay for £150)
bonnet hinges £8-9 each.
black edition complete grill £177 from a guy on German ebay. (brand new)
the wings would repair again.

if you know a good paint shop yo can do most of the work for less than a grand.
you must also be prepared to do with second hand bits.

£3000 grand is an overkill.
if i project manage the restoration of this car, you will way less than half of that.

Thanks for the comments.

As mentioned, I was quoted £3k but I won't be paying that. Lol. Due to the trade I work in, I can get access to all the parts I need at a pretty decent trade discount.

For instance, a brand new headlight cost me about £200.

Parts have already been delivered to the bodyshop we use and the car is stripped and waiting for the newly sprayed parts to be attached :) Prety happy with the overall labour and paint charges.

Good news - I have got a new S3 grill that I'm really happy with (even though I wanted an RS3) which will be going on. I don't want the S3 badge on there as its not an S3. When removed it leaves a square shaped hole, any ideas on what I can replace it with? My fog grills and front valance are also being sprayed gloss black which I'm pretty excited about.

Car should be back to being new and shiney by next Wednesday. Getting butterflies again which is good. Like waiting for my car to be delivered all over again :)

Sooo... Went to the bodyshop last night and the car is getting there!! Everything has been sprayed and is half way through re-construction and it's looking awesome.

Should get it back on Saturday and it's going straight off to have the intake, short shift and insert fitted that I got from Awesome. :p

Great news, Tim! As you say, it'll be like getting a brand new car all over again, ..AND SOME, with your added goodies from Awsome GTi! Pics of all your mods please, when you get it back! xx

Really sorry to hear this mate, we all get distracted at some point. Hold your head high for admitting it straight away and not being the usual accident a**ehole who tries to claim off other people's insurance. I bet you'll never look at some stupid crappy HID's again. Lesson learned.

Yes I'm very excited. Plus I'm gonna treat the girl to some Juicy cleaning stuff. Including SNOW. Ha ;)

Dude, missed this thread.

Bad luck on the prang. Does my memory serve me right didn't someone dosh your rear bumper before Xmas? Or was that another Ibis A3????

What a sh1tter, glad you're getting it done cheaper as there's plenty of work going on there.

Hope she drives right when you get her back, if she does crack open the snow to celebrate! Glad you're well.

Thanks bud,

I did a bit of work to get the price down, plus I'm getting a new S3 grill and spraying the front valance and grills gloss black, so I'm happy with the outcome.

Yea it was my car, somebody swiped it when It was parked up. Hoping nothing else happens.

Iv driven her in between stages and she seems fine, no weird rattles or shakes which is a plus.

Your car seems to have acquired a beauty spot on the bonnet and a fat lump under its bonnet.

To be honest if you can get that repaired for 2k then your doing well......very well. My S3 is into the bodyshop next week to get wings, bonnet and whole front end sprayed. Not alot of damage.......just lots of stonechips caused by someones negligence.......they're insurance is paying for it. The bill for mine at the Audi bodyshop is 2k and deal wangled to get the RS6 grill conversion done when its in. The paint/materials alone is just over £500.........phew!!!!

IMHO opinion use your insurance company.

Looks good, surely you arent leaving the s3 badge on the front though?

Really like how it looks with the private plate, does it mean anything or just random?

Naaaa, it will be coming off when I decide what to replace it with. Not one to make it something it's not. I just think this grill will suit me long term.

The plate is my surname, it's pretty bang on really. I have an unusual surname and it's only missing one character and minus the 2. :) Got the plate when I was 20 too.
