Audi is poised to take the supermini class by storm with a limited-production, 252bhp, four-wheel-drive A1.
The A1 quattro not only aims to land a knockout blow on the likes of the Renault Clio Cup and Ford Fiesta ST, but it will also eclipse hot hatches such as the Renault Mégane 250 and Ford Focus ST. It will even have the straight-line performance to match Audi’s own S3.

Audi has no plans to produce any of the initial 333 A1 quattros in right-hand drive, but insiders have hinted that this decision is fluid and could change, given the A1’s popularity in the UK. Audi UK will decide next month whether to import left-hand-drive examples of the car.

Power comes from the same turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine used in the S3. Shoehorned transversely into the engine bay, it produces 252bhp at 6000rpm and 258lb ft from 2500-4500rpm.
The heady reserves are channelled through a six-speed manual gearbox and a Haldex-style four-wheel drive system that Audi has engineered for the A1’s PQ25 platform.

Audi has yet to divulge a weight figure but claims the A1 quattro matches the S3 in the 0-62mph sprint with a time of 5.7sec and can reach a top speed of 152mph, making it some 1.2sec and 11mph faster than the front-wheel-drive A1 1.4 TFSI. Combined economy is provisionally rated at 33.2mpg.

I want this, I'll be keeping my eye on this but if it is £40k then i'll be looking no further.

It's quick but still RS3 money. Rich boys toy?!?!

I could't pay more han £30k for this even with it's trick Quattro system

I saw number 1 of 333 on Wednesday 12.9.12 at Boston Audi!

Very nice but as it was priced £41,020 I will have to give it a miss!

Oh, btw it was left hand drive, as all 333 cars are!

I understand that only 19 are coming to the UK.

There is one at Newbury Audi for the same money. They've had a few interested punters but LHD has been putting them off. I took some pics of it, I'll put them up tomorrow.

I seriously want one of these!! I seen one when I was in Worthersee for the VAG show, just think how much power you would be able to get out of one of those with mapping and some extra performace mods!! *DRULE!!!*

Awesome Mike

I had the S3 to the dealers today, and there was one of these in the showroom, looked great apart from its 41k price tag lol.
Sytner Nottingham if anyone's interested in drooling over one :)

How did you know it was number 1 ?

There's probably some sort of plaque on the dash representing the build number :)
Oh right maybe, i was thinking trebora4 might of got confused because on the steering wheel its states "1 of 333" on every single one of the cars, he could of made mistake as if it is the number one car made out of the 333. when really its 1 of the 333 Cars made.
If you understand me ? haha :ermm:

They do look amazing but they are LHD ? what ??

So this is a little cheat by the dealer. The 'owner' was actually from Audi UK who would have placed this on the internal auction website and then the dealer in question will now have it up for sale.

Why? Well because I sat in this very car at the moving motorshow this year on the day before Goodwood runs, where Audi have a utterly massive stand as part of Goodwood and the motorshow...

And? Well my current A1 was sourced from an Audi dealer through the same method, except mine was used in their dealer training centre so had been out on a few simulated 'test drives'. I personally think the granny drove it (the instructor) as it was stupidly stiff at (a-hem) over 70 (officer) with over 4 K on the clock after 4 months. I can happily report it's not as stiff these days!

BTW those super sports seats were awesome to sit in... :icon_thumright:

Wow definitely a hot hatch but... For that money I'd still rather have an rs3

There all number 1, unlike the R8 GT which is number 1 OF 333 the A1's are just 1 of 333 (not actually number 1)

Bit naughty on Audi's part really, to miss leading
