The Engineers 8P 1 Progress Thread (Pic Heavy)

Welcome to the forum I'm a fellow jap to german convert after owing Toyota celica and ep3 civic type r I then went to a mk5 GT tdi golf and now my audi which is by far my favourite. Get the rear lights changed as it completely transforms the rear :)

Loving the grey wheels ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome guys,
b19ctr your car is a beast, read you build thread a few weeks back. Im not jealous one bit!!!

compared to all my jap cars the Audi has the best all round package, comfort, looks, great engine and economy!

OK, so today is one of my only days off in the past two weeks; so got i little exited to wash the car.

Went and stocked up on some new products, clay kit, wax, cloth etc etc.

Washed it, half way through rinsing... the heavens opened and soaked the car with dirty sky water!!!

Should of known really as i have lived in Manchester for 28 years! our summer was two weeks ago,
Might get chance to clay the car next year!

So, bought a little gadget a few weeks ago so i'll show you all while my car gets rained on.

I plan on travelling to a few shows this year including

- Ten of the best at York airfield, went for the past few years.
- Top Gear live.
- Southport air show.

So comfort in the cockpit is a must, this will help a little...

Great piece of kit, would recomend to anyone who uses an iPhone for a sat Nav.
Im planning to buy the TomTom App soon as it will be much better than the free one
i currently use.

As you can see in the above photo it also comes with some clip things that can be stuck to other
devices like real sat navs. iPod's and non compatible iphones to save having loads
of other holders rolling around the car.

No need for a bed side clock any more! :yum:

They are made by a company called Just Mobile and the products for the iPhone a called
the xtand. very well built and should last a long time.

it’s been a while since i have updated. A few small additions to my baby so here we go.

Saturdays are usually when the magic happens; went up to Euro car parts in the attempt to pick up some detailing products but went slightly late leaving me no choice but a trip to Halfords.

Lucky for me they were doing an offer. 3 for 2, Happy days!!! :beerchug:

Before anyone asks, no i don’t work for Turtle wax, they were just the best value for money, plus i have used some of their product before and was fairly pleased with them.

Having never clayed a car before i was apprehensive but decided to go for it. First washed it as usual, just as i was about to dry the car the heavens opened!!! Typical Manchester!!! annoying!!!...
Got to around 4pm and it was clear again so i ran outside like a small child when I snows :jump:,
dryed it then got to work with the claying then give it a good wax. Results below.

If you look closely "in real life" it has a few marks from when i clayed the stickey stuff off,
spoke to my detailing friend and he tells me the light scratched should buff out. Fingers crossed!!!

More updates to come lads and ladies...

God black looks good when its clean.... :)

Can't wait to get my A3 now!

Can you tell what it is yet?...

Really really hate the stupid bent tailpipes,
after what danb986 purchased I realised they were best looking bolt on tailpipes i have seen, my twitchy ebay finger just jumped on it.
See his guide here: http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/new-a3...udget-exhaust-trim-retro-fit.html#post1289724, Great read. :readit:

Took around 2 weeks to arrive and here they are unboxed

101% awful :puke2:

Went to work with the grinder wearing 3D glasses from my recent viewing of Transformers 3 as eye protection!!!

Took around 30 mins and here is what happened

and here is what is hidden inside them

two pewny pea shooters, what was Audi thinking! they looked pathetic!!!

After a few test tries finally got them in a position i am happy with.. :arco:

If you look carefully the bolts can be seen as the stupid rear bumper i have curves in at the bottom,

They would look much better on the s line rear or black edition rear. someone on the forum has a
black edition/ new S line for me when they find a replacement, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE SO HURRY UP!!!

The best mod for the money, easy to do and the result is beautiful.

If you do want them just order them, the wait is long but they are well worth it.

Thanks again to danb986, His guide made me take the leap. :yahoo:

As a matter of opinion on your next mod...I always say to myself that if i get a black a3 i'd probably go down the chrome route i.e. leave the grille chrome and get mirrors/covers to match that as i dont personally like a3's all black, it looks too modified i like em OEM or as near as possible.

Saying that, stealth look isnt too bad, it matters what you like the most - its your car so good luck!

I completely get your point, i wouldn't do anything that would ruin a future sale either.
Oem is defiantly a must. so are you a fan of the black edition?

It depends on the colour to be honest...Ibis white is nice in black edition.

But the model I am hunting for now to purchase by the end of september is a 2006/07 s-line 140 TDI! I think thats the best looking A3 - the bumpers, lights etc is spot-on on those.

As a matter of opinion, My cousin has a black a3 3-door with 18 (possibly 19s) speedlines...light window tints (say 60-70% gun smoke) and chrome grille with chrome door mirrors. it looks stunning...may be you should go down that route? :p lol i'll try and get a pic of his...

So after i posted this a few months back: Opinions please - Pics inside!

I
decided to go with the voters (Thanks to everyone who took part)

Looked on eBay for weeks for vinyl wraps but never got round to ordering some,
Then found a local Wrap guy who quoted me £60 for matt or gloss & £80 for carbon fitted.
Thought it was a fair price but times are hard so got in contact with a friend who works
for a body shop. He knew a local guy that could supply me a cut. :yahoo:

So washed the car then headed up to Stockport car audio. (Below is proof that I did wash it) :moa:

It was the friend of the chap who does the wrap, apparently it was bought like that.
Not sure on it myself, looked like a chalk board.
He did tell me they planned to take it off and redo it in a nice matt black.

So we measured up my chrome, paid the man and i was on my way with a slice of vinyl. :blackrs4:

considered fitting it myself on the sunny Saturday it was but bottled it...

Don't think I like it at all

Yours looks shiny though mate :)

It so hard to keep it looking clean, how you finding your new car Dan?

I'm sure we are all waiting for more pictures of yours :slap:

I don't think I would but that matt black Audi, just looks a bit cheap.
Also not liking the retro fit L.E.D's :puke:

Thanks marwayg

Its just tire shine, not the cheap Halfords stuff though!

I have a friend who works for a Merc repair shop, they wash the cars
once repaired and use top quality products.

I just go to him with a jar like a beggar and he fills it for me! :rockwoot:

ooo, nice!!

Reckon i can get some of this stuff locally? Or any idea what it is called?
I use: Carplan - Original Black (not the best of products)
I also have a tin of tyre Paint. Havent used it yet.

I'm sure you can get it local,

when I run out I just to to my local car wash place with my jar,
give one of the guys £1 and he fills it for me.
I can be a little cheeky like that but I guess everything has a price!

:yahoo:yeah thats a good idea! might just do the same myself!

Its basically a silicone sealant thats all.
I got my alloys painted gloss black from original silver colour. You dont think it will mess the paint up do u?

My Alloys have been painted and I use that tire shine every time I wash the car and have had no problems. :o.k:

I just go with an old jam jar and use a paint brush to apply it!

The only thing was that the guy who did my alloys said i shouldnt put chemicals on my alloys 'just in case'.
But ill take your word for it! :)

Jam jar... here i come :)

Not been around for a while but do have a little list of mods to report on.

So, if you have been following the last update was me picking up a sheet of matt black vinyl wrap.

The weekend after it was bought i took it to my trusty body shop friend to get the bumper off.

plenty of pictures below:

how much was your wheel recolour? may get my winters done

Yes i know, it looks nasty...

We separated the chrome grill from the rest as it made wrapping a little easier.

blow is the grill lonely in the boot

ee2dce6f.jpg

it started to drizzle so we took the tools inside with the heat gun.

Let the wrapping commence...
