Hi guys

Is there another way to test a key fob to see if it just needs to be synced or if it just doesn't work?

This is the method I've been trying:

”Open central locking controller (35), and go to measuring blocks.
Open channel 3, and in block 4 there are 4 zeros.
Using any remote, press and hold a button until one of the zeros changes to a one. The car will acknowledge any remote that is compatible with the car, regardless of it being programmed in. “

But its not even showing the key fob that does work...lol

Any ideas??

Some locksmiths have the kit to pick up the RF signals from the Fob - could always give that a go

You can do a test in the adaption area, you dont have to save it. Try this
Start Vag-Com
Choose [46 - Comfort System]
[Adaptation - 10]
Go to channel 021.
[Read]
* Choose the memory position you want the new key be matched on by entering it's number (e.g. "3" for memory positon 3).
[Test]
* Now press any button on the remote you want to match.
* The meas. block field above will change from Not Recogn. to Recognized.
[Save] (if you want)

Its very close to this with 10.6 vcds, the wording is slightly different

Thanks for the reply ;)

I've actually tried that method before i found the one i posted up.

The problem is i cant click “Test” as its dull (yes i have a full copy of vagcom....lol).

Also i need to use central locking 35 instead of central convenience 46.

Yes he has an 8L not an 8P so has to use 35, is this a key of ebay or one for the car originally unused?

No mate its not from ebay..

When i bought the car it come with two keys, one that works and on that don't.

The person i bought the car from said that that one that works was not the original key and he had it made.

The one that doesn't work still works in the door and starts the engine , its just the central locking (fob) that doesn't work.

Tats why I'm trying to find out if its a faulty fob or its just a sync issue.

Check the battery & also does the part number match the working one?

The first thing i tried was changing the battery.....lol

I'm not sure what you mean by “does the part number match the working one” mate.

Do you mean are they both the same MHz ?

If so then yes they are.

EDIT:

I just took them both apart and the part number of the one that's working is: "4D0.837.231 N" and the one that's not working is: "4d0.837.231 A" .

I did a bit of searching and it seems that they should both work ok.

TBH the A supersedes to the N but shows the A as a brazilian fob lol.

Given you cant even see the original fob signals it would maybe indicate an incorrect method used, this is from the B5 A4 chassis below, maybe same for 8L, worth a check to make sure correct.

Thanks again for you reply

When i say it doesn't see the original key , what i mean is that vag doesn't see it. i can use the fob to unlock the doors etc.

Yes I understood that mate, original key works on all functions, spare key starts car but no remote lock functions.
