a4 wierd catching noise when lifting off loud pedal

hi peeps newbie here
#as title says iv got a a4 1.8t on a r plate and when i lift off the loud pedal it sounds like something is catching (turbo) not sure if it is tho. Iv been under the car and tryed to hole all the heat shield to see if it was that but the noise is still there.

any ideas???

Our old car had a rapid metallic rattle on overrun, which was caused by the penny valve on the turbo.

Eventually the penny valve fell off, and the car lost all boost.

it reminds me of when i was a kid and i used to put a card inbetween me spokes on me bmx. it makes that kinda noise. defo sounds as if its coming from or around the turbo area.

how hard is it to fix "the penny valve" or is it a specialist job?

Basically it needs a new turbo, or at least a recon by someone who can fix it. Which is why i ignored it until it actually broke.

And ye, card between bike spokes is a reasonable description of the noise, and it only ever occurred on overrun, until one day it didnt any more, and all the power went away.

Well thats not what i wanted to hear lol. And glad ya understood what i ment lol.

Had the whole front end off it yesterday to clean the oil strainer and sump took 15 Hours was not a happy man like. well cheers for the bad news lol
