Hi all,
I have been slowly fixing my A3 2.0Tdi, had the Mechatronics unit removed and checked and new Atf oil.

A few days later after coming back from the garage the airbag warning light started to flash on and off.

After using my mates vag com, i have the following code:

Address 15: Airbags Labels: 8P0-959-655-84.lbl
Part No SW: 8P0 959 655 D HW: 8P0 959 655 D
Component: Airbag 8.4ED H00 0140
Coding: 0011602
Shop #: WSC 06435 000 00000
VCID: 438ECAFA7BFD

1 Fault Found:
01739 - Crash Sensor for Front Airbag; Pass. Side (G284)
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit - MIL ON

Where is the pass crash sensor located in the car ?

Also i have a slight ticking noise when in idle and park, but i goes away when in drive or if the revs are raised slightly.
Any ideas on this noise would be appreciated.

the bag sensor is near the headlight on my a4
not sure on the a4 1 on each side

Yep near the passenger headlight under the bonnet. Its either that sensor or the wiring, most likely the sensor though.

Oh and the ticking noise is either the Dual Mass Flywheel or the bearings in the gearbox. Probably the bearings though, you would need to take the gearbox apart and replace them.

Thanks for the info all.
The car has come back from the garage today, they recon the noise is from the dual mass fly wheel, but that i should be ok to drive it around for a few weeks.

How expencive would it be to get the barings and the fly wheel changed ?

I will have a look for the crash sensor tomorow.

I think the bearing is like £30, they will find the faulty one and replace it, but they need to take the gearbox apart and im not too sure on how long this would take, labour cost would be your main concern here i think might be around £150, but im not sure.
I know that to change clutch and flywheel its £200, i think its also recommended to change your clutch when doing the flywheel, best to do this all at once to save on cost.

thing is the bearings in the gearbox will go, if not now then later and that will mean you need to change clutch, etc. when they go.

Sorry should have mentioned that i have a DSG equiped car.
Would it not be expencive to change the clutches on a Dsg equiped car?, and very difficult ?

Hi all,

Where is the pass crash sensor located in the car ?

not sure if anyone has answered this yet as I'm too lazy to read on down the thread but on my Audi A3 2.0SE Tdi i found the bag sensor by accident. when removing my glovebox to wire in my mp3 lead into the glovebox, this thing just randomly dropped down from somewhere and I realized that it was the sensor, (good thing it didnt get a knock or else I would of got an airbag in my face and Im guessing that would hurt.)

but the sensor is above the glovebox when you take the box out its like resting on a shelf thing, well mines is anyways.

good luck!!

There is no DMF in a DSG. Where does the ticking noise come from ? under the bonnet? in the cab ? on the move ?, tickover ?,

I had no idea it had a DMF sorry. Quite a few mistakes in that article particularly the bit about the car not creeping forward in drive/tick over !!!!!!!

Yes i found that a bit strange, mine creeps and i like it, great for parking or snow.
Also if you have a quick look on ebay for dsg gearbox's you can see pic's with the flywheel on.
