any of you fellas had the following problem?

The problem only occurs in sub zero temps and its when the car is started in the morning or from a long period of inactivity. The car will crank and catch first time no problem but then for a couple of minutes the car runs really rough and struggles to get up to idle speed but then it's fine. Just wanna get to the bottom of it before the really cold weather starts. I've had the glow plugs changed so far but no use.

It could be fuel pump timing, or possibly the injectors. I think the first thing I would try would be to swap the Coolant Temperature Sensor, they're only £20 but at least you can eliminate that.

james if its a 1.9 there is no fuel pump timing but i agree with you on the coolant temp sensor..

Hi
if its running rough like this and clears after a short while when cold it could be the injector loom having a moment
its caused because the injectors are taking a lot more load to fire more fuel in when cold and as soon as that initial period is over all will be well
i have had this with a few now and the loom changed and all is well

i had this too paul although i just give mine a clean and it was much better but if it comes back then ill put a new one in.

so not that then ;-( the temp sensor is about £24 from euro parts

its in the thermosat housing i think it is easy to do but just fiddle mate when mine was done my car was ruf to start and the glow plug light took longer to go out and also the car took for ever to get to 90.c

i'll have a go at that then thanks fellas. are they easy to find/fit?
If your on the temp sensor thats round the back of the head exhaust side
you cant miss it its got a 4 wire plug on it and is held in with a plastic C clip ,
make sure the engine is cold also make sure you pull the O ring out if it isnt attached to the sensor on the way out
new sensor and o ring and renew the plastic clip and your done .
Ps. obviously top the water back up with G12+ when your finished .

Did you get to the bottom of this?

Plus Paul are you able to give me the part number for loom please? im on an AVF engine 1.9tdi Quattro.

Cheers

Rich
