Black Edition

Not feeling the love for new black edition alloys ..Might just be me who thinks the old one look better .. or maybe im just fed up of audi dealership
with all this build date non sense .. been 3 weeks and still no confirmation on my s3 .. bmw and mini are far better than audi dealership.

Assume its a 170 TDI, Avant. nice car just too big.

Apparently my car is now on the boat! and i may have it this week the dealer said!! but i reserve getting excited.

I miss mine so much!! I thought I would be fine and had an "it's only a car" attitude, but the Astra and the wait has beaten me...

I am sure I have seen those alloys on the previous S3 as standard, they are far nicer than the previous standard BE ones I have seen.

I have gone for my previous 18in 20 spoke again as in my avatar as I really liked them and they compliment the chrome I feel, where as yours set off the BE perfectly.

In light of conversations here I checked the lead times on the BE with the company supplying mine

A3 3-door 20-24weeks / A3 Sportback 28-30 weeks. Black Edition delayed.

Mine was ordered July 1st and is due Oct 22nd.

The previous 'standard' sound system was pretty good I thought anyway, but I love my music so traded the pearl effect for the Bose, so I am hoping its a leap forward again in quality...

Think your photos and the link I just posted has given the Brilliant Black a boost in being the right choice. Having owned the Phantom I will be able to give a good assessment in 6 weeks, yes 6 weeks!!

Those I read on 'other' forums and in reviews who state the Audi A3 is getting dated etc, cannot be using one regularly as mine always got looks and in my opinion is a really classic muscular understated shape that will get looks for a long time yet...I could have had VW, BMW and Merc and went back to Audi for that very reason, though I was toying with a fully specced VW Scirocco but it just lacked that 'extra' when final decision came...

I think this forum is therapy for my wait, Audi should prescribe it given lead times...

Its not the dealers, they are as helpless as anyone, all they can do is make the order and then its up to Audi themselves to meet the order. They, for whatever reason, seemed to have been totally unprepared for demand?

I am sure a dealer will turn around a near new request pretty quickly..

From your list it seems you turnover your cars regularly so whats you opinion on Audi Vs BMW then as vehicles?

I test drove the BMW 120M sport and it just left me a little cold in comparison to my Previous Audi?

mjh56 I agree that this forum is therapy for the long wait - also you at least get a reply on here not like the Audi UK. I've contacted them three times over the past month and never had a reply. The cars are great but their customer support is non-existent.

I too have gone for Brilliant Black which is darker/deeper shade than Phantom Black and contrasts better with the rest of the car, the only down-side is that the paint is a bit softer and more prone to stone chips-bird droppings, but as its a company car I don't have to worry about the resale value. My previous car was an Audi A4 Avant S-Line in Brilliant Black and after 3 years and 65,000 miles it still looked great.

The new BE wheels look the business and easier to keep clean. They stand out as being different than most others on the market, as for the single pipe exhaust - so what !! you can't see it when your driving :))

Mine is a company lease also and that affords less concern over residuals though if it was my own ££ I would have been well informed from my time reading messages here...

My lease company give me a weekly updates of the latest delivery date, so I have had zero contact with Audi themselves through this and my previous A3 was the same with the 2x services both being pick ups and delivery...My only contact with Audi was when I went into local dealer and though they were aware it was a company lease, they were still very helpful and accomodating...

My previous and now deceased A3 was in Phantom Black and I did like it, but the sound pack drew me in and the Pearl effect was let go and having seen the BB I am sure I will be very happy with it and if I am really honest my Audi is going to be dirty more than its clean anyway...Also, like you said, I am in the car and the sound system is for my benefit...

I think its been established now that the twin pipes remain and recent photos support that, though until I get my car I will not 100% know...

mjh56 - I too like my music, never drive anywhere without a CD or Ipod playing. For me the BE pack with BOSE and Xenon/LEDs make the deal, all the others bits - flat bottom steering wheel, privacy glass, piano black, etc.. are a bonus. Wheels do make a car and I think the new 5 spoke rotors will grow on you and there won't be many around - especially going by the order to delivery times !!!

Looks nice Rich, hows it compare to the BMW?

Hate to say the BMW felt better built but the audi gives you a more involved drive, 10x more toys too! may be too many toys, for some reason the front fogs come on with the lights and i cant figure that out for the life of me. lol

I like the BE edition lots, Daley 60 plate photos are awaesome! and would have likely gone for one, but the lead times scared me off even looking into them in more detail, even the one I have ordered was 16 weeks..

This is latest I was given by my lease company today for Audi..
A3 3-door 20-24weeks / A3 Sportback 28-30 weeks. Black Edition delayed.

I have just noticed yours is April 2011 and if I had to drive this Astra 1.8SRi for that long I would have a breakdown, it genuinely is so underwhelming that I am wondering why I put myself through all I do for that as a 'benefit' haha...

Quattro and S Line was my must as I just loved how sure footed it was and apart from the economy the way the power is delivered from the 2.0Tdi 170BHP really grew on me as never had a Diesel Turbo before...It can be quite sedate and easy in traffic, but when you put down the power it comes in a rush and particularly if on a Motorway or A road you can really shift position as needed...

Think I said in one of many post above that we will all be happy with what we are getting, aside from small preferences its a top quality package that turns heads and is a pleasure to drive...

Richy

I drove a 5 series not so long ago, had to drive it 200 miles from office to office for someone and it is a lovely drive but I am just not comfortable in larger cars, my preference has always been to the Audi size such as my previous of VW Golfs, Boras and Focus indicate....I would never buy bigger....

I am going to love my car when it arrives, but it was ordered with company tax, economy as a balance to getting as much performance and sport feel as possible....But I sat in a new Ibis White S3 today at local dealer and it was love!!

mjh, i have gone for the 140 tdi SB so too have economy as my main driver, the Black edition has that bonus of amazing road presence also though which the boy racer in me just cant do without.

The BMW is a nice car and i had the 320i touring (company car) but i just didn't deliver that feel and edge that the audi or GTI i had previously offered. If i ever lose my spirit then maybe then i will drive a BMW again, until then sport hatch FTW!!

BMW finish and trim is Asda quality rather than Audi Waitrose Quality. BMW image is still pooh for many VW Audi fans and half the buggers driving them never bother indicating.

Old BMW's were a class act but today they have gone the way of Mercedes, Flash, brash and plasticy.

VAG any day for me with Quattro,

Richy c,

Hey....nice run around you got there. Glad to hear that you will see your BE soon. Remember post loads of pics!

Hi guys !

I've been stalking these hallowed pages for several months now and have decided to enlist so to speak !
I ordered a Ibis white 3 door S3 B.E in late May and have just been informed that my delivery date has changed from early October to November the 5th - must say I was quite suprised afterall it 'only' an Audi ! But after reading some of these posts some of you guys have been waiting at longer....oh well as they say 'there always someone worse off than yourself'.

Only options I had were the bucket seats and a tilt and slide sunroof

I'm a bit undecided on the new B.E rims - I think I like them.....but I'm not 100% sure. I did try and spec the 20 spoke jobbies but they wouldnt let me. Although I have got the option of swapping them when it finally arrives.
Are the lengthed leadtimes down to zero stock ? Or is there another problem ?

Look forward to hearing from you guys soon

Terrible news. Wifes new BE scheduled for week 40 Build (4 October) has been put back to week 7 2011. Deal will be £1400 more (VAT + less on PX) Delays only effect BE's. Looks like we are stuffed... What about a Giuelietta some may say.....any thoughts?

Thats not good news, this is getting beyond a joke now!

That is bad news mate sorry to hear it. Although if I am correct I don't think you will pay the VAT increase due to it being Audi's fault. With regards to the loss on px I would see if I could get an option chucked in FOC?

I checked Monday with my Lease Company on lead times and this was reply (Below)...When I ordered mine July 1st the A3 was 12-16weeks and the BE was 24-28 hence I went for the A3 as in my profile which lead time has actually gone down a week at moment.

A3 3-door 20-24weeks / A3 Sportback 28-30 weeks. Black Edition delayed.

What are the forecourt deals on very near new BE?

Personally I would be very happy to take a MY10 off the forecourt that was close to my specification if saving was decent enough. If I was playing with my money I would likely go for a used S3 with as low as mileage as can find...

I know its noce to have brand spanking new, but given the delays is it not a consideration to look at a used with only a few thousand on it?

If we wanted an S3 we'd buy a new one. We had a 2.0TFsi Quattro before the 170 Quattro (08) we have currently. Great fun BUT poor economy, knackers tyres and as we go to Europe 7/8 time a year Diesel is a no brainer - 85p a litre in France.

Currently debating buying one on that is on it's way minus sunroof but with full leather. Wife doesn't like full leather and loves sunroof so I think I know the answer there! ******! Dealer also reckons BE is best bet as at least you get back some of the value of the extras and it is a good spec anyway.

So Dilema...and options

1. Keep 2008(08) Car 22k miles and put a years Audi Warranty on it and wait for 2012 model A3 (pictures look good)
2. Buy one described above now (not 100% happy)
3. Factory order for March 2011 as originally wanted now but +£1400

Aaaahhhhhhhhh..

Yes it is, as the car you have ordered is unsurprisingly the one that fits best!!

To be honest, and I would love to offer some advice, but I cannot as you can make cases for and against all of them options :sos:

Let us all know what you decide?

We have been talking and rejected option 2. Having had x2 Sportbacks with Panoramic Roof we want another one.

Option 1 or 3? Will try to persuade Audi/Dealer it is their fault the BE is late and we have to take the VAT hit but I have pushed the boundaries already on the deal and I fear there may be no where to go locally. 5 month late + £1400 + have to buy x 2 tyres £250 if we kep until March. See what Audi UK come up with!!

Why is life so ****** complicated......

***** news for sure. Audi are in more trouble than they are letting on if you ask me. It's all loose promises and always lacking solid locked dates. My BE is supposed to be manufactured week 40 but I know this hadn't been confirmed as a build date and with your information it doesn't give me masses of confidence.

Will let you know if mine changes too.

For sure it's annoying, infuriating and difficult to make decisions on limited information BUT... at least you are talking about buying a superb new car and struggling with that than many other things in life. I always come back to that when I get wound up. It could be worse...
Sorry if it doesn't seem that way at times! :)

Hi RB84

I agree there are other things worse in life than being ****** about by Audi. Superb cars, we have had 3 x current shape A3's since 2003 already. 53 Reg A3 Sport 2.0Fsi, 05 2.oFsiT Quattro Sportback + current 08 2.0Tdi 170 S-Line Sportback... all greta cars which is why we want another before VAT goes up. To be fair we were going to wait until MAr 2011 until this crap Government decided to raise VAT. Come back Labour!!!

To add some slightly better news to the recent posts, I have been informed today that my car has now been Built and is awaiting shipping! I've been grinning like a cheshire cat all day :D Any idea how long it usually takes from being ready to ship to being ready to pick up?

Mine was in the port for less than a day! I was told thats thats the quickest the Derby dealership have come across, it can take up to two weeks to get a boat but usually a week.

I have on my paperwork that if car arrives after January 2011 then 20% VAT will apply at my cost.

On Order:: A3 2.0TDI 170 Black Edition Sportback :: S-Tronic :: Ibis White :: Vienna Leather :: Open Sky :: Light & Rain Sensor Package :: Bose :: Interior Light Pack :: Folding Mirrors :: Non Smokers Pack :: De-badged :: Ordered 5th August Expected - April 2011

Some good news yey!! Look forward to the photos Richy..

I have been looking around at the single/twin exhaust debate and this is what I think I have established

The 1.2 petrol and the 1.6TDi and 2.0TDi (140BHP) are the single pipe. All others are twin pipes.

Sounds like the A3 is for you then! I can see your dilemma. Hopefully something will come off for you, maybe another cancelled order or something with the spec you want (long shot I know but never say never!).

Please please be right! When will someone be able to see either their or another 2.0TDI 170 MY11 exhaust to confirm this one way or the other?

None of the dealers got them in yet? check out the car locator on the audi website.

Look on www.audi.de configurator and switch from FWD 140 to FWD 170. The 140 Quattro appears to have 2 pipes but this is not sold in UK. I am 99.9% sure the 2011MY 170's Stop Start will have twin pipes... if we ever get one!!

Very very long shot... BE Sportback Quattro Tdi 170, Phantom, Tec pack, comfort pack + Open Sky Panoramic roof is unlikely to appear as a cancelled order.

May just have to sit and wait... or wait and wait for the 2012 A3...

I'll keep everything crossed that it will be on its way in a day. I'm hoping for very early October for delivery/collection at the latest though. Does that seem reasonable, or should I still hold off on the excitement?

Well it was yesterday that they told me it had left port and was on the way, getting stupid now though i was on the M1 this morning and saw one on top of a transported that could have been mine, of cause it wasnt but i had convinced myself that it was, jeez!

If the one with mine left on monday i would assume that there is one or two per week leaving. sounds like there arnt many there as mine was straight on so would say yours would be sea bound from friday ish? You should have it last week in september then really.

hi guys i ordered my A3 sport back black edition a couple of days ago, and i guess after reading everyones posts on here im in for a long wait. I do have a question though.

After reading through peoples posts i see that some people who are experiencing long delays for their black edition, have been provided with free courtesey cars under Audi's mobility scheme.
What i want to know is, how many weeks/months people are waiting before Audi offer this option??
