Cone Filter in Airbox

Have been thinking of doing this for a while, have a jabber sport cone filter lying around in just the right angle. People have been saying +ve and -ve of cone filters vs airbox setup... so I combined the two!! Its now a smoothed airbox + demashed MAF + cone filter

Not sure what the readings will be... but will do a vagcom g/s log tomorrow and post some results... May be all a waste of time

So what do you think? Best of both worlds?

will be interesting to see. good chance itll be less as i recon on a cone the filter area is gonna be smaller

Did think about this but the same probs of airflow to the box will exist even if you could get it to fit which will be an issue as the MAF is positioned right at the top of the upper half of the airbox and has a 'trumpet' on it... maybe you could 'adapt' it but if you are using the original plastic pipe that is where the air comes in then I cannot see any benefit to this...

I still run a std airbox, demeshed MAF and Green Cotton filter but I have a piece of 4" trunking as a CAI going into the box which 'does' make a difference... in the current ambient temperatures I am seeing AIT's of anything up to 20 degrees over ambient but when I put my foot in the AIT's drop dramatically from the cooler air coming from the CAI trunking I have fitted...

its currently using the original plastic trunking. Have plans to add a 4" duct at some stage.

I logged 186 g/s with my open metal cone filter but was getting temp reading of up to 50 degrees in a really hot day. If i get slightly reduced airflow but much lower temp, i suppose it will still be worth it

As mentioned before it had a dramatic effect on the AIT's once the engine bay was hot but it was done more to support the airflow requirements of the GT30... considering my TIP is 3" to the turbo, the piddly little plastic thing wasn't going to cut it really...

Worth the effort IMO...
