Heated Mirrors

Bought 2 heated mirrors off the bay. Fitted them, and, of course, plugged the wires on to the connectors.
Neither of them work.
I have VCDS - in Module 46 (Convenience, or Comfort Module), basic settings, groups 012 and 013 are for the driver's and passenger's mirrors. Looking at 012-4 and 013-4, both say: Heated Mirror: OFF.
How can I change these settings to say : ON? Or are the mirrors faulty? They aren't OEM ones.
Any help - greatly appreciated.

Turn on the rear window demister, then check again.

I have measured the mirrors with the rear demister on, and the values flick to ON for approx 1 second, then return to OFF. It 'samples' (i.e. flicks to ON every 5 seconds approx).
Is that because the ambient temperature is shown on DIS as 58 deg F, so the temp is too high for the mirrors to come on all the time?
If so, at what temperature will the mirrors be shown as ON all the time?

Needs to be below a certain temperature. I think it's 12 degrees C on the glass or thereabouts. Give it a few days and you'll see whether you have to scrape the ice off them in the morning or not
