Stunning, good job.

Say, those rear cluster... do they fit on all 8L Chassis A3's? (mines a 1.8 sport, '97)

I much prefere that style to the current 'all' red ones I have..
 
chers lads ;) not sure about the lights fella - i don't think they changed the chassis on the facelift, best finding someone with aftermarkets on their pre-facelift :thumbsup:

and went up the hills today, this road goes over the top of the range, it's just like a top gear test road, cattle grid at each, fast undulating and flowing, plus sheep running about loose :lol:

Great series of photos ...

I'd say a late morning start through to early evening finish ...and all the while the car gets cleaner and the definition on your photos get better .. the last shot is great!!!
 
1) Very clean car but not a fan of the reflections. Do you have a CPL on the lens?

2) Good. Could you have moved to the left so the car is square on so that the bench and bin isn't in the picture and less of the houses? Is it lit at night? Worth trying a few more here I think.

3) A little underexposed probably because of the metering and the sun.

Go ahead and see some of my pics and comment on my thread it's the only way to improve.

What lens are you using on your 30D?
 
1- don't have a cpl, just some shadow/highlights in photoshop ;)

2- yeh, didnt think to much about this one - just pulled up and took the pic, it's taken about 20 mins before sunset

3- just noticed this one is ********, there's a slight whiteness to it, too much faffing in photosop lol. orig pic below;



i prefer pics on my car to come out a little underexposed as it brings out the shine in the wheels and definition in the headlights more.

lens is 17-85mm one which comes with the camera, all shot in raw so i can play around with E/V afterwards.....i do have the 70-200 f/2.8L IS i use for my rally pics, but havent used it for the car yet, will have another go next weekend if the weather's good :)

Expose 2 layers and combine to bring out defintion.

Wow a 70-200 f2.8 IS, get out there an use that for your car pics.
 
Don't buy a cheap one. Buy the heaviest one you can find you will need it for your 70-200 to hold that monster rock steady.

Get down there at sunset and wait until the lights turn on. I wish I had a background like that neer me.
 
Manfrotto you need to go an look at them as there is so much choice but spend around £200-250 on head and tripod. It is a false economy spending any less on one. I spent £100 on one that I thought would be OK but I just bought a 70-200 f4 L so may need to change it.
 
bit steep then, LOL. dont use the tripod enough in my line of photo subjects to warrant that much on one - trouble i found with the 70-200 is you have to stand miles away just to get the car in frame, lol.... here's a few with 70-200 the other night

I'd agree that the best bits of kit you can treat yourself to are a CPL and probably a tripod and remote shutter release. Maybe a ND filter too if you're going to go for longer exposures.
You can add extra weight to the bottom of a tripod by hanging things off it. Not very scientific, but works just fine, if £200 makes you baulk (understandably)!
You can buy the world's most expensive kit and ask it nicely to take a brilliant photo for you, but at the end of the day it won't. Better to use cheap kit very well than use the top of the range kit badly imho.

A CPL and a remote shutter release are a must and worth every penny. I hang an old camera bag on my tripod with some stones in it to get it a bit more stable.

He has got a 700-200 2.8 IS...so he can afford a £200 tripod. A cheap tripod would be a waste of money with that monster as it weighs 1470g.
