Air Con Re - Gas

Looks good. Which Audi model do you have, and where does it connect up?

I've used the Comma cleaner a few times before, and it's great. Thanks for the heads-up on the re-gas, I'll give that a go in due course.

Just unscrew the thicker pipe cap and pop this thing on. It will give you a readout of how much gas is in at the moment, then just top up as required. Easy Peasy! John, I've got a B6 model as well (2003 2.4V6), and I went looking for the pipes this evening,. I found what I think is them, in front of the forward bulkhead, near to the engine air filter housing. I took these pics:

Are these what you were referring to? If they are, I think you might have been confusing the air filter with the pollen filter. The pollen filter is tucked up under the rear bulkhead, on the passenger side.

If these are the right ones, I'm guessing I should unscrew the ribbed cap, yes?

I've spent some time browsing that US website, and there is some great info about A/C on it. I've confirmed that the ribbed cap is the right one, as it for the "low-side" port.

I also discovered that the product that costs £39 in Halfords over here is $22 over there!

I've just used this, and totally endorse what John said. Mine was just teetering on the edge between the green & blue sectors on the gauge, so I added enough gas to take it to the upper edge of the blue sector. It took about five minutes.

Dead simple to use. I just wish the price over here was more in line with the USA, where it costs the equivalent of about £13!

No idea, but it might depend which A3 you have. On my old B5 A4, the ports were hard up on the rear bulkhead. but on the B6, they're much more accessible, as per the pics. It might be the case with the older & newer A3s as well.

Your best bet is just to open up the bonnet & look for them. After all, you know what they look like now, don't you?

wonder if someone can set up a group buy to get the price nearer the $22 they pay in teh US..

I have also used R12 to 124a converstion kits which worked fine on my old 1990 honda accord.

I generally bought mine from Walmarts in the states where three cans plus connectors and hose/gauge are about $28 dollars and cans alone are $4.00 I have done three cars.

These are larger cans than are being flogged by halfords. The halfords 1 is extremely expensive for what you get.

Inter dynamics is the main biggy in the US dont know if they sell over here.

They do single cylinders through to varios kits which include everything even for older cars.

one word of warning Be careful not to overcharge the system and keep the can upright.

Occasionally get the airconditioning serviced as this removes any internal moisture from the system.

at £65 quid now is good 5 years ago it would cost you £150 for halfords to do it and that was cheap then elsewhere was over £200.
