    Wish me luck...

Been trying for ages now to get a move away from my department in Network Rail, for several reasons, with knockback after knockback sometimes not even getting by the sifting stage.
I now have an interview for a secondment this coming Tuesday in ops and performance, still on shifts but based in Control.
Had a wee informal visit yesterday and talked to the acting manager, she was very helpful and gave me a few pointers.
Only thing is I hate interview panels and never feel I do very well-more so when previously interviews have been a waste of time as someone has already been picked for the post and interviews are but a formality.
Anyway wish me luck think I'll need it...

    Good morning mate, good luck!!!

Hopefully it will go your way.

Just remember to relax and be yourself in the interview, if you need to take notes in, do so, people always think you cannot but you can and it also shows that you have prepped for it, just put a few key words on it and a couple of questions to ask at the end.

If its a competency based interview, try using the STAR method, its a well tried and tested method.

The below link has nothing to do with me, but a quick google search came up with this.

    Hope it helps.

Cheers guys, sitting here trying to make sense of a 100 page document on delay attribution and scribbling away, even though I know training will be given if I'm successful.
Arranged the visit yesterday to Control as I feel it looks good at interview if you've made an effort to show an interest, and the manager was very helpful, she also said she would pass on to the recruiting manager about my visit.

Bit frazzled here now, interview was an hour late, and I started nightshift at 7 so was all a bit frantic.
Very little was asked about the post, was more along the lines of explain a situation where you...,or tell us about a project or job you or your team took on and what was the outcome etctetc.
Think I did fairly well,as there was a lot of note-taking on the part of the 2 interviewers, which I think is the norm these days. They were also very apologetic for the over-run,but I said it wasnt a problem.
Will be a week or so before I hear anything as they have some external applicants for one of the posts too,but if it doesnt work out I havent lost anything, only everything to gain.
Think the fact I did a wee bit research on-line helped as well as my visit to Control last week too.
    Just a waiting game now.

Difficult to tell. Some places, they tell the unsuccesful candidate first. Where I work everyone is notified at the same time.

I know exactly what you mean. The waiting is so frustrating but you don't want to be seen as badgering for news. The trick, if you can pull it of, is to cajole someone else into enquiring for you.

Sod it,am on duty tonight so just sent a short pleasant e-mail to HR enquiring if any progress had been made yet as it was over 2 weeks since my interview, and apologised if I was being a nuisance.
Hopefully hear something back tomorrow, even if just to say a decision hadnt yet been made for whatever reason.

    Andy

Something must be wrong mate, how are you appying, directly or via agencies??

I have always found following up with a phone call helps, as not everyone does, but those that do, stand out from the crowd.

So a quick call just saying, im just checking that you recieved my application/cv for role ref: xxxxx, then before they get a chance, just quickly sell yourself in a minute, say i feel im relevant for the role because of blah blah blah....

I applied for a role before Xmas and called it through as above and they didnt recieve it, so the lady i spoke to said to send my CV directly to her which i did, then i followed that up with a phone call, which led to an interview and the job that im currently in

Being pro active when it comes to job hunting is the key as so many people apply for jobs, companies and agencies just dont have the time to follow up and ive also seen where they literally pick CVs out of a pile and offer them, hoping for the best.

    Hope that helps mate

Markos, keep us posted, sometimes its good to show that you are interested in the role.

HR and recruiting manager both mailed me today,HR to say they would chase it up,then 10 mins later the recruiting manager mailed, apologising for not being in touch but that due to policy they also had some external applicants to interview, which would be done and dusted by the middle of next week.He wouldnt give anything away in his mail though.

Tbh mate, even tho they are interviewing external people for the job it's 80% they usually go for someone already within the company due to already knowing people, knowing about the role more, etc you get the idea but all my fingers and toes are crossed for you mate

Follow it up with a courtesy call mate, say you are really interested in the role and that you wanted to make sure that you did get the CV this time round...never assume!!

What sort of role are you looking for by the way?
