I know its off topic, but someone once told me car AC never runs out unless there is a leak. Is that true mate?

its true, it should work for a very very long time leak free.
what ruins the systems is lack of use, the seals perish with no lubrication, causing leaks and ****ing the system up.

refrigerant does not have a life span as such provided it is not contaminated with moisture or dirt however some refrigerants are blends and if they leak the system should be reclaimed and recharged with fresh gas due to different molecular size the refrigerant would no longer be a correct blend. R134 as used in car ac is not a blend and can legally be topped up if a leak is found and repaired .

So general use of AC over the years will mean that its still intact.

yes but you will get a tiny loss through the shaft seal but its like a few grams over time providing it is run frequently.
