    Jimmeh & N8 KOW vs A3 Sportback

This is the second time N8 and I have worked together now. Our first, was on the rather nice Audi TT from a few weeks back.

This time round, it’s a kitted out A3 Sportback in black. Again, a lovely looking Audi!

I set off at 5am to make it to Mancs for 7. The early start saw us packing the wash kit away at 9am; allowing the full day for polishing. Nice!

    Product
    • AutoGlym SRP
    • AutoSmart G101
    • Autosol
    • Buffalo Leather care kit
    • Blackfire Midnight Sun
    • Blackfire tyre gel
    • Dodo Juice Limeprime
    • Einszett cockpit premium
    • Meguiars Last Touch
    • Menzerna 203s
    • Menzerna 106FA
    • Poorboys Black Hole
    • ValetPRO Snowfoam
    • ValetPRO Bilberry

So, after setting and kitting up, we took a look at the days project..

A lovely looking sportback.. Boasting a few S3 items, too. (I’m sure N8 will fill us in on this in more detail later)

To the trained eye, however, it had seen better days..

For an ’08 car, it was quite shocking.

Some panels were OK, just the usual defects you’d expect on a car of this age. However, some areas were horrific! The bonnet was especially weird.. The above photo of the buffer-trails is on the side flank (if you like..) of the bonnet.. (on both sides.) The middle section though, was trail free. Some panels had been mopped before (badly..) and some, hadn’t. The roof was victim of similar treatment all over…

Taking a side each, we started with the wheels. (which looked practically new; except some unusual pitting on the inner rims on a couple of them)

Cleaned with AutoSmart G101 and various brushes/mitts/towels.

We then attacked the door shuts/engine bay.. later rinsing before the foam stages.

After rinsing from foam, it was washed with Megs Shampoo Plus and the Lambswool mitt.

De-contamination was done with Sonus Green claybars.. Some rough areas dotted around, but, in all, relatively ‘clean’.

One great thing about being with N8 in Mancs, is the underground facilities. Come rain or shine, we will work till 9 ( ) . One downer though, is the flooding setback. Taking it in turns, we’d keep on top of the standing water by pushing it through to the drains.. (squeegee went missing so the brush had to suffice)

My Avant hiding well out of the way this time: (caused all sorts of traffic problems last visit)

Ok, so.. Whilst N8 disappeared to make some coffee, I cracked on with the taping.

And had a better look round now the car was clean..

Starting with the rough areas on the bonnet:

a 3M yellow polishing and 106FA was used to deliver the following:

Actually, no; I tell a lie. That was after 203s..

The 106FA removed some 70% of the marks and buffer-trails, but, a few deeper marks remained. 203s didn’t deliver perfect results, but many of the deeper scratches were this time, removed.

    Chinese, anyone? Lol

Whilst I made light work of the large panels, N8 operated the PC7424 and made his way round the bumpers, skirts and A-pillars etc.

    50/50 on the roof..

50/50 on the n/s rear quarter:

I’d say in using the 203s as apposed to 106FA for the once over, we achieved some 90% correction. Both N8 and I happy with the results and powered on in delivering the last final touches..

    - Interior cleaned/hoovered
    - Leather cleaned/protected
    - Wheels sealed
    - Tyres dressed
    - Exhaust polished
    - Glazed and waxed.

    VIDEOS..

Captured with the iPhone, so, not the best quality..

Before condition of the bonnet. (note the difference between the centre section, and the sides)

Bonnet after. (minus the right hand side that has yet to be worked..)

Video footage of the 50/50 on the n/s rear quater as seen in the photos, and, the rather messy n/s door's..

    N/S fully worked..

    and another..

Hopefully N8 will post the 'full after' photos later on.

Another very enjoyable day between the Jimmeh/N8 KOW tag-team.

So this is my car , well not the car as i knew it !

Picked it up from the body shop on Friday after having the S3 side skirts , S3 front end and S3 rear end done.

Got home left the car on the drive.

Nathan was kind enough to collect the car from my house while i was away for the weekend.

On my return Sunday Nathan delivered me a NEW CAR !

It was dark so we had a quick look under the dim street lamps , it already looked good.

Come morning though it was a whole different story , it looked stunning in the daylight , and i spent a good few minutes just walking round it with a grin.

I have recently spent quite a lot on this car, i must say that its all good and nice having new mods and upgrades.

But the paintwork finish and detail they have achieved is truly AWESOME.

It is probably the best money i have spent on the car to date.

Just in time for another wet cold winter in Manchester !

    Would i recommend Nathan ?

I am waiting until i can afford for my wife's new Golf GTi to be done.

    Think that answers it.

crypric23, are you able to pick up a few pics of the car in your own time for us? I must say, it is a lovely model (how easy was the white interior light to install? (love it!))

It's just a case of keeping on top if it now.. What is your weekly wash process? (or, whenever it is you choose to wash the car)

Arrrggghhhhhh - why did you have to go and do a black Sportback for?

Now I know what my paint should look like - makes a massive difference having paintwork corrected.

I soooo need a lottery win!

Cracking job again gents, but please no more black cars - LOL

What I like best about Jim and Nathan's work is their brutal honesty. Way too many newer detailers on the scene make unbelievable claims about what can realistically be achieved in a single day... and never back this up with proof. These two lads on the other hand never make over optimistic claims, yet in my opinion deliver excellent, honest results every time... back up by honesty shots showing the level of correction achieved. In my opinion, this counts for a lot. Keep up the good work chaps, always a pleasure to read.

One thing I'm curious about... Does the photo shoot come as a bonus or does it cost?

Either way, the more I see of these threads, the more I am absolutely certain who I'll be calling if I want my car sorting!
