Hi people,

Am currently thinking of Xmas presents to suggest to friends n family for me.

One of the ideas i have is a new headunit for my Audi S3 8L pre-facelift, I currently have the Concert II headunit which says bose when i turn it on. I also have the 6 in the boot CD changer n subwoofer arrangement.

I would love to have the RNSE systen with Sat Nav etc but as i ony have a single DIN unit it looks like a difficult and expensive retrofit item. (If anyone knows of a single DIN headunit that does Sat Nav and isn't uber expensive i would be interested in having a look)

So i was just thinking of upgrading the HU to an aftemarket single DIN direct replacement. I want something that can play MP3's etc plus still display the radio info on the DIS on the dashboard n control the cd changer.

Any ideas of what might look good and function well?? not looking to spend loads so under £200 would be nice.

have a look at the becker units
depending on model some of these are single din and have sat nav built in
they also match very very well with an audi interior
there are other options such as the new jvc unit but these dont match aesthetcially as well as a becker unit
there are also a few cheap single din flip screens which have sat nav as well such as the vdo unit again a good unit but doesnt match as well as the becker

Thats a bit gutting as i like that feature to see what radio station i'm on or what CD i am listening too.

I have had a looksie at some of the aftermarket HU's like JVC and although they may not exactly fit in with the rest of the audi styling they have bonuses of extra features like the sat nav screen etc....

The Becker units do look similar to the Audi Concert HU's so will see what else i can find out about them. Are they any good as a HU?? as i don't wanna spend out on something thats not that great.

As for RNSE retrofit any ideas on what that might cost to buy said equipment plus fitting (I have seen some VW RNSE systems on ebay for £300ish)??
 
for sound quality the becker quite a bit better than the jvc
as for navigation they are pretty much on a par
the best navigation would be an alpine but you are not going to get one at the same price as the jvc and becker unless its secondhand
for sound quality the alpine and becker are pretty much neck and neck
 
heres mine as the audi unit went all crazy and only plated full volume..lol

i would go something Alpine personally, they produce great quality sound, fit in with most cars, inc Audi, the one i have in my honda allows me to change the colour of the lights, to ie red(audis colour)

MMMMmmmm i like that alot!! looks very expensive though.

There are a few Becker units going on ebay at the mo but i will want one that does MP3's and none say if they do or don't have had a look for the Becker website to see what they say but can't find it thru google.

Any ideas??

There is actually one aftermarket brand that displays info on the DIS but I can't quite remember the name!

I'm sure I've asked the same question in the past... I'll have a look...
 
Blaupunkt have an adaptor for their Stereo's to interface with the Audi DIS, around £70 i think.
 
Ok so for £70ish i can get it to show on the DIS, does that only work for Blaupunkt stereos though??

I am currently thinking about going down the route that Ballcrusher has taken cos i really like that single din motorized touch screen job!! just gotta find one in my price bracket now.

Out of interest if i do replace the headunit :
1.how do i get the old unit out?
2.where do you get a cage that fills the hole but fits a normal sized HU?
3.where do you get the blanking plates to fill in the gaps either side of the new HU?

you can buy keys from Audi or buy some Autoleads versions from halfords or other audio specialist - Ebay also

you fit the cage supplied with the stereo into the dash space once the fascia adaptor is fitted
