Drinking oil quicker than petrol!

Back in the summer I had a problem with the oil level whilst travelling around France. The main dealer said the oil level sensor switch was broken, so I kept a careful eye on the oil until I found time to get it replaced.

A couple of months ago I took it to a local specialist who replaced the switch and topped up the oil. The computer bleeped a week later to say it required a litre! I continued to keep it topped up, but then realised the amount I was using didn't seem right. Last week I topped it up and took the mileage.

Today it's bleeped again 479 miles later! Surely this can't be right?

Hope you have warranty, lots of threads on 2.0tfsi engines using oil due to rubbish piston rings. Get it booked into audi for a consumption test.

its not only the 2.0 tfis
its the 18t aswell as most of the audi range

It's 1 year out of warranty with 64k on the clock!

Mine was using around the same amount. Had a pressure release valve changed at audi and now uses around a ltr every 1000 miles. Much improved for a £40 part. Car is on 110,000 miles.

I've not heard of many 1.8t's actually burning oil, they do like to haemorrhage it though lol. My 1.8t was loosing over a litre per 1000 miles through the VVT half moon seal.

To the OP like I said get it booked in at audi to get it checked over, if it is fecked you can always p/x it in for something else......

The problem is it's got a big dent in the side and a huge scratch on the front wing (caused by someone else!) and now possibly a knackered engine. I'm not going to get much for a part ex!

Extended warranty providing its FDSH and get the revised piston fix, cheaper than paying £6k or so

If you have a full Audi service history, there is a good chance Audi will give you a good will gesture towards any repairs. After all, Audi admit there is faults with the engines.

The car had an engine failure last year, luckily when I was sitting at the lights. The timing belt is a chain...'Excellent, maintenance free' I hear you say...not if the bl@@dy bearings to the fly wheel go nocking the timing out! I went 'calmly' nuts with the garage complaining that it shouldn't have happened to a car less than 4 years old with just over 50k on the clock.

Anyhow as a goodwill gesture they paid for all the parts, but it still cost me just over £1k for the labour. Now I have to pay out more this year for another engine problem.

I think I'll replace it for a Toyota...at least they admit there's a problem with their cars and recall them!

Not a chance! My total bill was £6k and all I ended up paying was £270!

Yes, depends on extras you want but the price starts at that.

The goodwill gesture is a risk IMO dependant on the dealer then you may have to pay labour, so for the sake of extended warranty you pay 0 as its not as if it's down to wear and tear now is it.

For the guys that have had it done, how's the consumption now? Does it drink any oil between services? And how does the car drive, any difference, better mpg perhaps?

The goodwill does seem to vary between dealers, as it has nothing do do with Audi UK. I had my work done at the same dealership that I get my services and MOTs at. The Customer Service manger of Audi UK did say that if you keep up the Audi service history after the warranty has expired (like I did), then there is a good chance of goodwill gestures. Some people on here have had the full cost covered by the dealership and not paid a penny!


Since the work was done on mine, I have never had to top it up and I have had no low oil warnings. Since the engine was rebuilt, the car accelerates quicker, makes a better noise, and generally drives better. I think some of that might have to do with the ECU update that was also carried out.

Mines going into the garage next week, one year on from the rebuild. I've covered 11k and have not put a drop of oil in. My mmi is showing between a 1/3-1/2 left which I am more than happy with. It should theoretically get to its 20k long life service without topping up if I decided to go that long.

Mpg is between 35-40 mpg working out the sums, over 40 if it does a long motorway trip. I have normal wear and tear items due to be replaced now but it's proving an above average car to keep serviced each year. Suspect suspension arms and bushes now! Argh! All the bits I keep changing along with the rebuild it will be a new car again soon.

If Audi offer over 70% in goodwill I would 100% get the work done. Go for 100% though....

i know they give 50% etc but never ever seen it done for the price of a service
