Hi guys, i know there are a load of these threads knocking about but i want to ask specific to my case.My oil pressure warning light comes on when i start driving, however the car is driving absolutely fine, no noise, no smoke, no loss of power and the oil level is fine.has anyone had a problem with these symptoms? as i dont think it will be the balance shaft if its still driving correctly?any info would be majorly appreciated!cheers, Luke

Faulty sensor if your confident it's not the pump issue. Failing that scan on VCDS and see if tht shows anything
Could also be the hex shaft connecting the balance shaft to the oil pump starting to round off................................
What ever the cause don't be driving the car around with a low oil pressure warning. Get it diagnosed asap.. Don't take the chance and end up like so many others on here...
If the sensor's anything like those on the 8L A3 TDI's then they're only about £10 or so to buy and really easy to fit. Had the same symptoms you're describing and it was a faulty oil pressure sensor as the guys above suggest.
dont suppose you have a picture of where on the engine the sensor is?
thanks for all your replies, would any local garage be able to give me a diagnosis? you see im from the UK but live in germany with the army and was hoping to drive to the UK (600 miles) on the weekend but i dont want to risk making anything worse as stated above.

little update, took the car to the local audi garage and on route i noticed a little noise when i gave it gas and generally above 2000rpm, nothing major almost like a kind of whooshing, anyway heading back to the garage now to hopefully get a diagnosis, im not expecting it to be good
Showed the guy the warning light at Audi and it started knocking so theyre keeping it and calling me tomorrow with the diagnosis, almost certainly a shaft jobbie im thinking.Christmas is going to suck...at least for anyone in the family expecting presents anyway!
Not always the case as the quote I had from Audi Teesside to replace my oil pump /balance shaft assembly was significantly less than the Independants and the local Specialist Engine Builder.
When i had my car repaired in 2011 Audi gave me 50% off their labour rates and 20% off parts. Nobody else could match the deal so IF it is an oil pump/balance shaft issue ( and i hope it isn't) check around for prices and be prepared for a long wait for the Audi approved parts as I believe these parts are still on backorder.
That said, there are reportedly other cheaper fixes out their using parts by Powermax etc but I have only experience of using Audi approved parts so Iam unable to comment on the other alternatives.

Just got back from Audi, cars having the work done tomorrowdiagnosis - Failed oil pump, lack of oil also caused turbo to seize (turbo was on its last legs anyway)Full cost including labour, all parts which include new model oil pump and sump, and turbo - 2615 Euro, would have been 3200 but i dont pay tax as im british forcesAm getting it done with Audi as im in Germany and dont speak enough german to trust anyone else i.e non Audi garagesand i cant get the car back to the UKall in all...Ouch
Thats a great price.
I would suggest you consider having the timing belt kit and water pump replaced while the front of the car is off as this will save you money long term if you are keeping the car.

i was thinking that but my uncle will do the timing belt and water pump for me when im back in the UK (he's a mechanic)
ok, 2600 euro bill has now increased to 3200...apparently the new model oil pump has to have a modification to take it from chain drive to direct drive (gears) and in the process the coolant pump and cambelt will be done so where as on the one hand its good that these extra's are getting done, on the other its an extra 600 euro's...

Smile, at least your uncle won't have to strip down what the garage are already doing and you didn't need a new engine and turbo ( approx £9000 at Audi).I think you have got this lot at a really good price compared to what you would have ended up paying here in the UK, so chin up man and be happy !
