s4 engine idle

hi there

if the engine is idling from cold, should the engine rock at all? a couple ive looked at so far had a slight wobble on idle. are they supposed to be dead still?

How you you mean slight wobble? Can you feel it thru the car?

If you mean physically looking at the engine, i'd be very surprised if there wasnt some movement, it is afterall spinning huge lumps of metal round!

Perfectly normal for them to rock a bit as Aragorn says.

Any engine with a V configuration will.

yup, thats what i meant, visually. one you could feel through the car would be a bit funky though.

the one i saw lastnight had the very slightest wobble, nothing wrong there at all. i think it was tappets i coudl hear though when listening by the front wheel arches

that normal too?

Perfectly normal for them to tap a bit.

It's when they tap a lot (ie: clearly audible from within the cabin) that you need to start worrying about cam wear!
