my car has an abs pump 8E0 614 111 A in it but it has the usual problem with them.i got a pump from an a6 8E0 614 111 AH. what does the H on the end mean? both look identical and i just want to fit the module part and it doea fit but i think it has the same fault as my current module so if i get the module from the a6 fixed will it work fine in my a4?

Hi Ian,
I've been looking into this myself and asked the same question but had no reply or maybe nobody knows.... The letters after the 8E0 are obviously revision codes, (well I think so anyway). I'd guess that later revision codes should work with older cars but not the other way around. The bit I'm not sure about is that some part numbers start 8D0 and some start 8E0 (like ours...). Myabe something to do with them being avants? Believe me, I'm quite confused about this. No way to get a definate answer, apart from going to Audi Service and we know how cagey they are...

8D is the B5 platform
8E is the B6 platform

Why your B5 has b6 parts fitted, i dont know, but it seems according to the parts catalog they are the correct parts for the car...

I had this problem a few months ago but managed to get an A version the same as what was fitted to my car, from what i found with searching around the numbers on the end refer to the set up of the car, e.g fited with traction control, quattro, fitted with electronic diff lock etc so they are quite precise to what part number you get, i think the AH was fitted to the passat which wont be quattro (unless 4motion).

I got mine from ebay for about £80 all in so keep your eye on there unless you fit the AH one and send yours off for repair.

The part number 8E0 614 111 A was fitted to the A4/S4, A6/S6, A8/S8 (Quattro's only) so dont just search for one off an A4.

Hope this helps, J

I'd kinda got to this conclusion but thanks for confirming it. I've now got an 8E0614111 AE to punt! Argh!!!!

Hey man,
I think the bosch part numbe is what we're looking for: 0273004284

This ecu has all the whistles & bells... quattro, EDL etc....There's one for sale on EbayMotors USA - around £172 + shipping! urgh...

not sure if its because its a facelift but its a b5 and as far as im aware its never had a new abs module in its life.

Boschnumber 0273004284 / 0 273 004 284
Part number 1 8E0614111A / 8E0 614 111 A
Part number 2 8E0614111E / 8E0 614 111 E
Software level D10
Manufacturer Bosch / Made in Germany

Suitable for vehicles:

Audi A4/S4 Quattro from 1995 to 2001 all with ABS and EDS
Audi A6/S6 Quattro from 1998 to 2001 all with ABS and EDS
Audi A8/S8 Quattro from 1994 to 2003 all with ABS and EDS
Passat B5 4Motion from 1998 to 2005 all with ABS and EDS

Part number 8E0614111E is the latest part number for 8E0614111A, so either part number will work.

any idea what the differance is between the A and AH?

AH is a fwd part i think

Bosch Cross reference 0265220525

I would look at swapping out that sensor before changing the module though mate, as far as vagcom was concerned, the module was perfectly happy, it was just saying front left sensor is "open or short to B+"

^^^2nded.
I just got my replacement ABS unit (which is wrong - but now got one watcher on ebay - woo) and after redeploying vagcom it's now showing both rear sensors are at fault.. still got the 65535 code but the sensors even look toast. Will be doing that before replacing the ECU

Hi. Got the same probl. with my ABS Module (8E0 614 11 A/0 265 220 408). What I've learned so far is that both mine and 8E0 614 111E will fit, but also repair-kit 8E0-998-375 will do.

These two modules were found in Audi A4/A6/A8's from 94-00 and VW Passat's from 97-00 as far as I've been told, but almost impossible to find... My local Audi garage here in Norway want about £1000 to replace the part with a new one...:banghead:

Ouch, see if there's a BBA-reman or similar near you, they do a fix in the UK for £100, about 95% of the time t's just what's needed.

I have a spare one the number is 8E0 614 111 but it doesnt say A or B after it.Will this be compatable ??

Dont think so. The letters signify different versions of the pump. The quattro cars ABS unit is a bit more complex than the FWD versions, and the two arent interchangable.

Boschnumber 0273004284 / 0 273 004 284
Part number 1 8E0614111A / 8E0 614 111 A

Passat B5 4Motion from 1998 to 2005 all with ABS and EDS

Part number 8E0614111E is the latest part number for 8E0614111A, so either part number will work.

so if you have a,b,c,d or e at the end of the part number it will work? or will it only work if the part number is the same or later?

only A and E are the same. Any other letter is not the same part

Its a part number, not a revision number. It has to match.

A 100% working ABS system is becoming my holy grail.... Just saving up for my new rear sensors now.

so what about A then AH? the AH is from an a6 and the A from my a4 quattro.
