Does anyone know what type of bolt is used for holding the airbag unit in place on the standard steering wheel
Tried mine today with a torx 25 and torx 30
no joy!

I think the pre-facelift cars it was a 8 or 10MM alley key

Mines a facelift
I've tried the 30, but it seems too big
I have bought a s4 steering wheel and that has torx 27 on that
but it is on a socket bit, so it's not long enough to reach the the bolts
dont want to keep trying to force the wrong one in, so might have to buy a long 27 bit and see

That's perfect for the sport steering wheel, but the standard one has
a deep plastic housing on the rear of it so you need something longer

Went and got the long 30 torx.
Appears somebody's had it off before and made a balls of it. The heads are actually shagged!
Any idea of how to get the airbag off now ?

sounds like its beyond civilised though :p

The only other thaught i have, is get some close fitting but cheap tools, and use something like araldite to glue the tool into the bolt head, let it set, and hope it holds enough to crack it off.

Personally i'd probably jsut set about it with angry tools until it came off :p

Would definetely solve the frustration alright.
But on a brighter note, being the stubborn beggar that I am I bought a full
set of torx. Seems like the correct size to fit the standard wheel is a T27.
Fits perfect, and cracked with a bit of pressure.
Thanks for the help though.

good job!

I guess a wee mirror would be handy in those situations so you can see if its actually chewed up, or if its just the wrong size bit.

PS, you need to post before and after pics now :p
