Hi all,

ive been to see a few friends that have had their alloys refurbed. they look pretty good but not as good as id want.

are my alloys a painted finish or are they powdercoated?

ive heard of wicked wheels but not sure if they are up and scotland and how much i should be paying per wheel

Your alloys are powder coated Kenny, I only know this as I have a powder coating plant and I have looked into refurbing my alloys myself.

The silver colour is epoxy powder and is laquered over with clear polyester powder to stop fading.

I could do with a bead blaster then I could possibly set up a re-furb service, those people who offer to repair on site are not worth the £50 you pay as powder coating is far more durable and tougher than wet spray, unfortunately my powder coating oven is over 30 feet long so I would not be able to offer a mobile service LOL.

HTH

Mike.

it just seems like a painted finish as there is a big flake off one of the spokes and its dark underneath.

recently saw wheels that had been done by a refurber but looked quite rough and not the nice smooth finish it is just now

thanks for the info, ill just need to find somwhere that will do as good as original finish

Kenny, if you venture South of the Border at any time I can highly recommend a refurb specialist in Mackemland where I take mine.

They strip them back, rebuild, respray and bake the entire wheel, my 18" Avus cost £47 inc VAT. Take a couple of days to do but well worth it.

Have used three different mobile services and you may as well go to Halfrauds and buy their repair kit for the sake of achieving the same finish.

my only other issue is i dont have spare alloys to put on the car while they are getting refurbed /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

refurbed my wheels over 3 years ago, they have covered 30k since then and still look as good as the day i painted them.

and they were done with audi aluminium basecoat and laquer, not powder coating, just normal car paint.

oh and kenny, i did one at a time rotating the spare wheel round the car.
