Anyone got any tips for repairing underseal, or know what the best stuff to use is?

Managed to scrape a bit of it off under one of the sills at the weekend, down to the metal so needs covering up again really. (it's a long story which involves a field, a lot of mud, the RAC and a man with a land rover).

I'd just clean up the area and then apply some stone chip. Its all I used on the underside of my escort. I got the stuff from my local motor factors / paint specialist. Most of the stuff you buy contains waxoil. I then painted mine.

I'm not exactly sure what the stuff that's been scraped off is tbh. I presumed it was underseal but someone has suggested otherwise. It's like a thick rubbery material which is obviously applied to protect the underside of the car from grit and stones etc, then painted over.

Any idea exactly what it is?

It will be some form of rubberised underseal, you should be able to pick something up locally, it doesn't need to be the exact stuff as applied by the factory.

used to use this stuff yonks ago

There seems to be some confusion between underseal and "stonechip paint", is it the latter which I need (and what that schutz stuff is - someone else mentioned this name)?

Steve, well the underside of the sills does have a kind of crinkly finish - do you reckon I'd be better off masking the area and spraying rather than brushing?

depends what finish you want, brushing is easier. The spray stuff doesn't go that far, I never masked when I did the escort. You could try Audi - they might have something.
