Cool Driving With No Number Plates

Well in light of my recent misfortune with my front bumper, I had to get new plates + holder. Matt (turbodaily) gladly helped in that department.

Today I took the old plates off to find it was very dirty behind =/ I was in no mood to get out the buckets and clean the car myself so went out and got it done. lol it was exciting watching out for the coppers and the guy who was cleaning it goes:
HIM: "you've got no rear plates..."
ME: "yea I know i'm gonna put them on soon"
HIM: "you've got no front plates... lol"
ME: "lol yea I know i'm gonna put them on soon"

Friends from around the way said it actually looked so much better and I think so too! I'm getting non-rusting screws tomorrow so i'll fit the new ones on then

Looks like a good way of being not being traced by speed cameras.

I wonder what the fine would be - probably less than for exceeding the speed limit?

Well I had the plates in the boot. I was planning to go over to Tuning Werkes as they got the non-rusting screws but forgot that they close early.
To be honest I reckon they woulda probably just let me go after I explained that.

The safe way was properly to put your plate on the dash board. For the rear one you can lift up the sun blind and rest the plate on it.

A closer inspection seems that you don't have sun blind, rest it on the back of the head rest then. That should give the cops no excuses to hunt you down.

But how far did you drive without plates, anyone gave you weird looks?

    Number plate fixings

Hey guys, please note that here in France (and perhaps in some other countires too), number plates MUST be fixed on the car with pop-rivets or some other means that they cannot be removed with simple hand-tools. Makes kind of sense to better avoid thieves. Police are quite active in our area in checking on this, and issuing fines for non-compliance.

    Why is that relevant, lol?

Came back from a show once without plates on. Took my front off at the show, and forgot to put it back on. Rear fell off on the way home, whoops!

This is Santa Pod to Newport, so a fairly long distance!

Well like I said, it wasn't to show off or anything so hope nobody gets the wrong idea Just went to get it washed which was about... 15-20mins drive and of course coming back too.

That time I had the plates in the boot too! lol. I'm so damn lucky

    BUT

    the inevitable happened...

I just got stopped tonight on my way back from hospital. Had to drive it as it was an emergency situation. I put the plates on the dash and rear too, if that even helped anything. I just explained what happened to me and why I drove it, also that i'm getting it sorted tomorrow (which I am) and they said ok no problems but get it sorted!

Gotta say, thumbs up to those guys . Were polite and really understanding. Had a good chat about there Passat too

I've seen a number of people in London with velcro plates (especially on scooters). They park, wip them off and walk away ... leaving confused parking attendants in their wake. I guess you cant be ticketed if you dont have plates ?!?!

There must be a fine for having no plates on a parked car. Or no one would park in an area with excitable wardens without them!

The problem is you would probably come back to your car and find it clamped. You would then get the parking fine, release costs and a fine for not having number plates.

Wardens don't carry clamps around with them though...
You could argue that someone nicked the plates... (and your pay and display slip...)
