170 Remap

RSD are now offering the Oettinger remap. The only specialist company that is as far as I am aware. To me the increase in power output seems modest (170 - 195) and at £700 including VAT not cheap.

Not being very technical maybe the torque figures tell a different story but I understand they have now remapped several without any emission problems.

Anyone here with an RSD Oettinger 170 remap able to provide info?
 
i had the oettinger remap on my a3,and by all accounts they all ways under quote their figures,they have a good reputation of producing a very smooth linear power curve too,so its not too peaky.

Yeah I see what you're saying, but even so, £700 for what 'might be' only 195bhp is too much for too little.

That said, maybe the 215bhp that Superchips were touting might now be unrealistic with the DPF issues? Even so, I think I'll hold out a bit longer and see what Superchips come up with. I'm still hoping that there might be a Bluefin solution one day.
 
i agree,it is/was a lot of money,and to be fair i think i would consider superchips or one of the smaller companies next time.

the oettinger one may well produce over 195bhp,the superchip figures are sometimes from a car that produced higher standard figures,but its still a lot to pay.
 
Me too. Gonna let othr people be the guinea pigs until the I'm confident the emissions issue is resolved. Also hope hat superchips come up with a solution. Oettinger are top quality and have great guarantees but, IMO, a little too expensive.
 
i forgot to mention the warranty that rsd gave which matched the audi one,and the reason i went with them,at the time the dsg was supposed to have had a torque limit and some maps went above it.
 
Indeed, this is where you can find yourself on shaky ground with remaps and warranties. If the clutch burns out or the gearbox disintegrates or any other major part of the driveline has issues then there's a good chance the dealer will look into whether the car has been remapped. Even with things like the Bluefin, where you can put the original map back, are you absolutely sure they can't tell? Maybe a small risk but still a risk.
 
The other thing with the Oettinger map is that it will be TUV certified.

They used to have very good links with the factory (may still be the case) and would buy a number of engines and test them to destruction to see what they could safely run.

Danny (RSD) will stand by his product and warranty, on my Golf IV which was originally Oettinger chipped he replaced the Turbo under warranty when the car didn't produce the declared figures on a RR. He actually installed the newer K03S Turbo and next time it exceeded the quoted figures by 10BHP. Problem turned out to be caused by blow-by on the original Turbo.
 
Thanks guys. I know RSD are top notch and have excellent warranty but it still seemed a lot of dosh for an xtra 25 bhp.

On further enquiry I think RSD may be having second thoughts about further Oettinger remaps of the 170 engine. There seems to be some suggestions that the engine does not meet exhaust emission targets ex factory.
 
There's another good reason the power increase is modest for the money; because most quality 2.0TDI remaps won't go over 200bhp/300lb/ft for driveability issues. According to a Diesel Car advertorial they once did for Superchips, the tuner achieved "mind boggling" power increases but it just wasn't driveable.

This stands to reason really, since my standard 2.0TDI 140 spins its wheels easily under hard acceleration (even in third gear when it's damp). A mate has a REVO'd Leon Cupra TDI that is now back to its standard map thanks to the same problem (plus a slipping clutch!).

The only application these maps would really deliver I think is with quattro-equipped cars. In theory, you could have any kind of map installed and always be able to use all the power.
 
I have asked Superchips why they have withdrew the re-map for this model as I was really wanting to get mine done.

If I get an answer from them I will let you know
 
RSD have confirmed that their remap is now fine and no problems with emissions.
 
I still don't understand why more manufacturers don't cash in on this and offer 'tune ups' as an option.
They maybe feel it would undermine the range or something,I dunno.
Mind you,Saab did it a few months back.
If you bought a 9-3,you were getting the choice of extra kit or an extra 25bhp.
 
some dealers do,when i was at rsd,he had a couple of cars in from a dealer for remapping,and the dealer wacked a premium on top of the rsd price.
 
why not contact custom code and get a custom map made?

the 140PD can be mapped to 185 by the likes of Revo

why not ask those at custom code to get one mapped to 190ish??
