Afternoon all,

I've recently purchased an Audi A3 2.0 tdi, MY2004. Whilst I love the car and have been very impressed with it, it has a problem. I have spent literally hours researching this and wondered if anyone could provide more detailed info

When my car is cold fist thing in the morning it starts almost instant with no hesitation. As soon as the water temperature goes above 70ish, if the engine is turned off, upon restarting it will take a good 3-4 seconds of cranking for the engine to restart.

Now I've read all kinds of stories, does anyone know the most likely cause of this issue? Any helpful posts will be extremely appreciated

Thanks in advance

For when your starter doesn't reach the correct RPM and no fuel is available
Creating fuel at lower Cranking RPM will temporally solve the problem
Failing starter or failing battery causes it.

I asked this the other day elsewhere when i read about the problem

Can it be "remapped" out? Or is there a software update available for it ? If so who can do this?

Yeah a remap can sort it, not sure of a software update?

needs to be mapped out

check vag com for fault codes first make sure not something easy

I don't have vagcom unfortunately :(

Any recommendations on a mapper who can map this out? Thanks guys

Sorry should have said - I'm based in the Midlands

Car is now booked in for a full remap and warm start fix at R Tech, can't wait!

Thanks to everyone who replied

This is the starter motor packing up issue.

It's been covered loads of times.

Given the age of car, it's due one if it hasn't already.

You can't expect Audi/VW/SEAT/Skoda to have created a car that needs an after market map to fix it on a standard car?

It's a good excuse for a bit more power whilst your at the mappers..... but replace your starter motor if it's a temperature issue. 9/10 that's it.

Do a battery test also for peace of mind before hand.

You don't have to have the power in the map of you want you can just have the hot start problem mapped out,

Your stater is working fine when cold correct.

Or £200 gets you more power and torque and fixes your problem,
