    RNSE 193 LED MK2 - Retrofit Guide - With Pics :)

    Had this but never posted it up.

    Hopefully it helps a few.

    Anything that should be changed please let me know.

    I know there are a few on here but the more the merrier

    I recently fitted a RNSE to my 2009 A3. I have Audi bluetooth and thought this would make a nice addition.

    This guide covers the MK2 RNS-E, but it is also the same for the MK1.

    I fitted the RNSE which is replacing a Double Din Concert CD player (PN - 8P0 035 186 P).

    Parts needed:

    - Audi RNS-E - PN 8P0 035 192 or 8P0 035 193 - 192 being a MK1 and 193 being a MK2

    - Fakra GPS Puck Antenna - For example - GPS Antenna Fakra Audi A3 S3 A4 A5 A6 A8 TT Sat Nav Navigation RNS-E MMI 2G 3G | eBay

    - Chorus/Concert/Symphony/RNS-E Stereo removal keys

    - 8mm socket

    - Flathead Screwdriver

    - Some cloths to protect various trim pieces

    - VCDS / VAGCOM

    - Patience (!)

    Difficulty - 4/10 It's basically Plug 'n' Play but you do need VCDS which is a must
    Time Needed - ~30-45 mins

    This guide was done on a Concert headunit. It also applies to Chorus and Symphony headunits too.

    Keep everything that has been removed in a safe place as you don't want to be reassembling everything and finding out you've lost something!!

    Step 1 - Removing Stereo

    Place something over your gearstick (preferably have it in Neutral) to protect it from scratches as you'll be setting the Radio on this.

    If you have an Automatic/DSG car, place the lever in to N.

    - Insert your radio removal keys into the four corners of your radio with the arrows pointing inwards.

    - You will hear a click and this is the keys located correctly.

    - Do all four and pull the radio out.

    - Disconnect your antenna cable and quadlock whilst resting the radio on the gear stick.

    We have now removed the radio and should be left like this :

    Step 2 - Removing Glovebox

    - Remove the end panel on the end of the dashboard on the passenger side - this pops off (place in boot for safe keeping)

    - Now get your 8mm socket and remove the bolt shown below

    - Now open your glovebox and you will see the 8mm bolts you need to remove to allow the glovebox to be free'd.

    - Don't fully remove the bolts until the lower bolts have been removed fully - see below for location

    - Now once those have been removed you can remove the rest of the inner glovebox bolts - the glovebox will now drop but support it incase it's damaged.

    - Remove the cable(s) going into the glovebox - don't turn the ignition on until these are reconnected as it will cause an AirBag warning light to appear which will need cleared.

    - We have now removed the glovebox successfully

    Step 2 - Installing GPS Antenna

    - Get your GPS antenna and feed it into the radio area and out to the left towards the passenger door.

    - As it's magnetic, I found this (see below) to be the best position to get maximum coverage for satellites.

    - It is stuck to the reverse of the metal cage (see image) and still allows the end plastic panel to be attached.

    - Leave the Fakra connection hanging beside the quadlock and antenna cables.

    - We have now installed the GPS antenna.

    Step 2 - Installing RNSE

    - Really easy, just plug in the GPS fakra cable, quadlock and the AM/FM antenna cable (white)

    -Turn the unit on and input your PIN code which you will have got with the unit.

    - Once this has been inputted, you should see the RNSE starting up.

    - Slide the RNSE in and you will hear the anti-theft tabs clicking.

    You should get something like this if you've done everything correct.

    - Now to check the Satellite Signal:

    - Press NAV -> Lower Left key around the central knob and then turn the knob to the right and you should get this;

    - Anything over 4 is good.

    It may take a few seconds for the unit to pick up your correct location if you've just installed it for the first time (I've removed my location )

    Step 3 - VCDS Coding

    Step 1

    - Go into Can Gateway (19)

    - Coding (07)

    - Have a look through the options and look for 37 - Navigation

    - Tick this and close

    Step 2

    - Go into Navigation (37)

    - Coding (07)

    This coding is for my particular Car - please make the following changes dependent on what is fitted to yours!

    - My final coding will be 0205715

    - Save and close.

    - There are also various Adaption channels which you can explore and change in your own time as they vary from car to car.

    Step 3 - Optional

    As I have Audi Bluetooth fitted, I will need to change the coding in this too so it know's there is a RNSE fitted.

    - Go into Navigation (77)

    - Coding (07)

    This coding is for my particular Car - please make the following changes dependent on what is fitted to yours!

    - Not much to change in here, only one or two numbers.

    - See highlights.

    9 = Speaker dependent (Voice Commands inactive, Acoustic Name Selection active)
    0xxxxx?: Language (Display)
    0 = No Display
    1 = German
    2 = English (UK)
    3 = French
    4 = Italian
    5 = Spanish
    6 = Czech
    7 = English (US)
    8 = French (CA)
    - After you have done your coding, you should be ready to go.

    - Go back to the VCDS main menu and press Applications and press Erase All DTCs.

    - You may want to reboot the RNSE:

    - Module 37

    - Adaption

    - Channel 111

    - New Value as '1' and press Save

    RNSE will now restart.

    Note - Pre-2008-ish cars will have an error within the RNSE with regard to the FM antenna, this is nothing to worry about although in some poor signal areas you may struggle to get a signal but 99% of the time it doesn't affect the radio.

    We have now successfully retrofitted RNSE along with all the relevant coding. Any questions please post them below and I will be happy to answer

    Just a bit of feedback about ur gps antenna installation. I'm pretty sure ur position is ok but just incase anyone has any problems or decides to try somewhere else, you will get bad signal if you mount the gps antenna under anything metal, main thing being the big beam that runs behind the dash. It really restricts signal, it's as good as putting the receiver inside a tin can. It's always best to have the magnetic part facing down too, some receivers only work one particular way up, others work any way up.

    Thanks for the feedback!

    I find mine fine where it is, I regularly check the Satellites Received menu in various locations and it always reads a minimum of 5 but the odd time it would drop down to 4 if in Belfast.

    I'm contemplating installing the OEM sharkfin at some point in the near future but need some diagrams etc for drilling

    I routed my antenna where my interior light is as I assumed the higher up the better? Not sure how I check for satellites but had not trouble so far, and I just let the magnet stick to the roof.

    Great write up - i'm still paranoid about it being stolen so may wait until I change the car in the future to an S3 8V which has a retractable screen. If I ever decide to take the plunge, then will follow this guide.

    Great write up - do you have Bose fitted as I don't see any mention of the brown Bose wire needing to be relocated on the quadlock?
