Dash doesn't light up, car starts then cuts out immediately

I have a 2005 A3 Sportback - was working fine until this morning. The fob works to unlock the car and turn off alarm. When I turn the key the radio comes on, windows go up and down etc BUT there are no light on the dash at all. When I try to fire the ignition it works and the engine comes to life and then cuts out straight away.

Any ideas/help much appreciated

the cutting out after 2 seconds ???
sounds like the immobiliser to me
get it scanned.

Didn't think you would be able to even turn the starter around with an immobiliser problem. Have a look at the battery terminals and all the power wiring undr the bonnet and make sure the -ve black cable goes securely to the body connection.

the immobiliser dont cut the starter
audi's will start for 2 seconds then cut out if immo fault

but as most immo are built in to clocks then if you have no power to the clocks then this would cause the problem you are haveing
so id find out what relays or fuses power the dash

That's what I was thinking, something more fundamental if power is not workng other items, still worth checking the battery and power cables.

Check the connector on rear of clocks hasnt come unplugged, also check fuses on right side of dash & under bonnet next to battery.
