Can anyone identify this hose from my engine?

As I'm still awaiting my Haynes manual from eBay perhaps someone can help me identify this hose on my 2005 A3 2.0l TDI?

It's seen better days and I think it needs replacing. I don't think it's split, but some of the outter jacket of the hose appears to be missing. The damaged section is just about visable in the picture, it's the area that is a darker colour. What do you all think?

ha ha, if it was petrol i'd prob know, but I know nothing about the diesels.

looks like a coolant hose. but its routed wrong, it shouldnt be wedged there like that against the inlet pipe.

Thanks Murran, from what I can see the hose does connect to the radiator - so coolant makes sense. I'll have to investigate more tomorrow.

Pull off the top cover. You should get a better view of the pipe and where it goes.
