    Lowering springs for my motor....

    Howdy Folks,

    I'm looking to drop the car, modestly, as I have to confront a sloped lane/drive everyday - therefore can't slam it unfortunately.

    After having the 19's fitted, I just feel I need to fill that gap slightly, but as the car's sitting on S-Line suspension at the moment, I reckon I could get away with just changing the springs.

    The question is, what springs would you go for (keep in mind about the lane please). Where would 30mm/35mm/40mm take it ?....has anybody got pics to support how these look please ?

    Do H&r's give a harsh ride?

    The last lowered car I had started to get annoying, run over some dentil floss and
    The car would bounce up and down like a fairground ride!!!

    h&r 50mms get my vote. I have them in mine atm and love them

    i would say lower her 40mm and it will be nice still with a nice comfortable ride
    off the road boohoo anyone got a gearbox for me lol!!

    I've just fitted a set of eibach sportlines on my58 facelift s line sportback and it has enhanced the look and the ride quality if I'm honest.the wheels now sit flush with the top of the wheel arches which lowers it just enough in my opinion and the rides smoother not as hard.
    On the S line it quotes a 30mm drop on the fronts and 20mm at the back but I think it's probably gone down 35mm front and 25mm rears.
    I fitted them myself on the drive,really easy to do backs only took me about half hour it's only 1 bolt each side.
    I got them from Damian at dpm give him a shout excellent service I had them the next day after ordering em

    I can vouch for the ride quality of sportlines too, even on oem dampers. But if Im honest Im not 100% about the drop on the front. Even with the offset spring height the front still looks a little higher on mine sometimes. Don't know if anyone else has found this or whether it just needs matched dampers but my previous car sat perfect with a slight nose down stance which I like.

    Hi mate, the general consensus seems to be that the h&r springs give a smoother ride than eibach, tho not everyone agrees! I have just put H&R's on my baby, but she's on 18's not 19's so you might have a slight difference

    I've gotta say tho, ride is noticeably better than the standard "crashy" S-line springs..

    I haven't, but when I spoke to awesome gti, they said that you need the s-line dampers or the ride quality will really suffer.. Someone on here did do it with sports, but I just did a search and can't remember who, sorry Ay..! They ended up changing to s line..

    to be honest by the time you've added shocks Ay, for the price you might as well get coilovers.. from experience my eibachs were much more settled over large undulations in the road.. I went round the m25 last night and was getting a right bounce on with my s-line shocks and H&R springs.. thinking I might need coilys already lol

    I've the h&r 50mm on sport shocks aythree. The ride is relatively firm but not as crashy as it was on the sport springs. The best £100 I ever spent!

    And £100 for the springs, that's cheap. Used??

    I think the ride has improved a bit yea. Hard to tell to be honest as i fitted the springs and changed the wheels to 19s at the same time.

    Nope springs were new, bought them off a mate as he decided not to fit them. Orange Tuning - Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Mini, Opel, Porsche und Volkswagen Tuning is the cheapest place for them though

    Thanks for all the replies guys. Has anybody had the Eibach 50mm/40mm Sportline Lowering Suspension Springs, as attached :

    Yes mate I have. Tbh I know i said that the fronts are still a little high but I'm being super critical. The eibachs still give a nice overall look and the ride is so much better....less crashy. No decent pics at the moment but I'll try and do a quick phone pic tomorrow and put it up for you.

    By the sound of it, Aythreeee is thinking the same as me.
    When you say it's improved, do you mean it's more comfortable?
    The reason I ask is that I lowered my Mk4 Golf 30mm on shocks and springs and totally regretted it. It was bouncy and looked ridiculous driving down the M1 with my head bouncing up and down over every undulation. I put the standard rear shocks on and it was really crashy.
    I love the way my Sport feels compared to the Golf, but I would like it a bit lower. I don't want to sacrifice the way it drives though.

    Am I on your wavelength Aythreeee?

    As promised Krim I did these on my way home tonight. As good as I could get with my crappy digi cybershot. Eibach sportlines, standard shocks and 10mm spacers on the rear.







    As I said the fronts could do with a few more mm's worth of drop (the beauty of coilovers) but it's better than it was and alot more comfortable...must get that grass cut lol!

    That looks spot on! I have the same wheels so think I'll get these eibachs fitted. How much more comfortable is it over s line? It doesn't bounce does it? What about clearance with the spacers and people in the rear?

    Its fine no rubbing at all. Compared to the sline springs the eibachs feel firm but not harsh and smoother over broken roads. The car has a sharper turn in and Its never bouncy.
    I wouldn't mind adding some shorter sports shocks like the eibachs or koni fsd's in the future but for now Im happy with it.

    That's sound mate. I have a 2 year old daughter and don't want her being rattled about in her seat. I've done coilovers in the past namely spax but I could of spewed the first few journeys it was so bouncy!

    What Size rims are these 17 or 18? Are these 40/50mm eibachs? would they be ok with sport dampers or would you say 30mm? also do u think I could get away with 15mm spacers on the front and rear ?

    The wheels are 18x7.5J
    you should be fine on sport dampers member here called ads is running the same set up. These are the lowest available springs from eibach which state 50mm front 40mm back.

    In regards to wheel spacers most run 12 at the rear and 10 on the front with oem wheels.

    Not to hijack but I have a 2007 2.0T FSI Quattro Sportback, anyone know what H&R's I'd need to make it look like similar to the black one above? It does not show S-Line anywhere on the car so I am assuming it is not or maybe the quattro only came with one type of spring etc? I have a set of S3 18s on at the moment, so can get about 2 fingers in at the front and 3 at the back
