    Rear Tie Arm Replacement-too adjustable camber arms "How To"

    Guys dont know if its been done? but here is a how too for those who dont know..... (s3 8l )

    First take a look at the pic, the car has not been lowered much, maybe 25mm (thanks jojo) and you can see the camber!!
    These adjustable arms combat the camber....





    So lets get started, i am fitting my camber link (in pic) they are also available from forge awsome etc....



    I am doing one side at a time...Start by undoing the wheel bolts slightly, then jack up the car, and secure on an axle stand... remove wheel and this is what you see..



    Ive opted for doing the top link, as i think it puts less stress on the driveshafts... it is the roundish looking thing...

    you can just see the other end in this pic...



    now you need an 18mm socket and an 18mm ring spanner, just saves it getting chewed up, and undo the big rose joint...



    Now you need to get you head in the wheel well, or you can get it from underneath, and undo the inboard mount, you may have to take the subframe mount bolt out, as there just is not enough room for the bolt to pass.. mine came out suprisingly easy tbh....





    Next get a large screwdriver and manipulate the outer arm over the rose joint....easy



    It should just pull out now from the inner joint saddle.... smile your half way there...on this side,...



    NOW what i did was line the holes up on the new one with the old one, (just so you know it is going to end up as you started, before adjustment), and the adjustable ones could be miles out...in transportation etc.

    Get your new adjustable arm, and feed it into the inner saddle and line the holes up, if it is tight just spray a bit of lube around the saddle...put the bolt in and put the nut on.. dont tighten at this stage, put the subframe bolt back in and torque it up.



    Next put the outer bracket on to the rose joint, put the bolt in and tighten the nut (not overly tight just so it is nipped)



    Tighten the innerbolt the same (just nipped) then replace wheel , and lower to the ground, torque your wheel bolts, you can now rejack on the suspension or put some blocks under the wheel and rejack, and let it down on the blocks, and tighten the bolts to the specified torque, (if you have access to a ramp or pitt it is easy and you dont need to raise it again....)

    The adjuster is accecable for your wheel alignment guy or yourself and is very easy ..to adjust and lockup



    I pulled my camber back by eye until i get an alignment done, but its up to you of course, if you ligned it up with the old one it should be no better or worse than when you touched it ...

    Have a cuppa/cig and then get cracking on the other side.....

    Remember safety first, these bolts can be tight so please dont rely on a crappy side jack !!

    any comments/critisism welcome,

    tools requiered

    1 x 18mm socket
    1 x 18mm ring spanner
    large screwdriver
    lube
    jack and stands
    coffee
    ciggies (if you smoke)

    does anybody have the torque settings needed for the bolts? 50nm as a guess???

    Got mine fitted, going to let them settle then adjust them tomorrow. Decided to use nutlock on the locking nuts, just to be sure they dont work lose.

    My s3 pulls to the left slightly, took it to my local Supertracker and they alligned everything up but the camber is slightly out and the guy told me i need adjustable arms. Are these what i need to adjust my rear camber?

    If so where can i get them? Thanks

    i was going to supply them with spring washers but was advised it will not need them has it is a left and right hand thread, so the effect is pulling on each other so they would not be able to work loose once tight
    we have closley monitored 4 cars with them on, every weekend each one is checked on the ramps at my place, no problems reported or anything loose

    yeah i thought about a washer but they shouldnt move once fitted. Only thing is if you didnt line up so the hub side bushes wasnt sitting 'comfortably' then it would probably try and twist it. Would be irresponcible if i didnt keep an eye on them though. Made up a jig today and set the camber up to what i think is 0.5 degrees and is looking good, when i do get it professionally tracked will be intresting to see how accurate it is. Goota admit its a sexy bit of kit, shame it cant be seen by bystanders

    no price increase as i bought all the raw materials last month, we have a big problem with them here with my place full of stainless it is like an aladdins cave to them

    i installed mine with a friend on his car and mine on the weekend, took the car for a wheel alignment and all i can say WOW WOW..
    the handling has improved SO MUCH and the car feels really different, much more responsive and accurate, the wheels sit nice and straight with very little camber...
    my only comment would be maybe to have something to lock the two nuts together just in case one of them in time decides to start loosening up, but apart from that quality is very good.

    cheers steve, we did consider locking washers but speaking to another engineer for a second opinion, it is definatley not needed, as it is a left and, right hand thread so infact it would get tighter so once they are locked it has a pushing and pulling effect, we have a couple of cars under close supervision with them on, and all is good, one (tt) has done the rounds on a track too thanks for your input though

    Hi Dave, yeah, I'm at Roskilly house, not Roskilly Farm where they sell ice cream to tourists for rediculous prices. UPS delivered it to the ice cream place but they kindly dropped it back here for us. You packed it well Dave, I thought I had received a severed limb in the post, lol.

    I'm amazed that the lip on the bushes aren't damaged when pushing them in, anyway they look great, thanks again

    I thought that about the nuts to begin with, but they have been on for a while now and not budged. Finally took mine for professional alignment and they thought they were fantastic and asked me where I got them from, naturally I denied all knowledge.

    Got my tie arms and bushes yesterday Dave cheers, fitted them today. What a twat the old bushes are to get out if you dont have a press! And you were right they are far too pretty to paint, ended up painting the other arms silver to sort of match!

    Easiest way to get the old bushes out is to burn them out. Use a BBQ fire lighter and a couple of bricks to support the tie arm and they will fall out as the heat melts them.

    Are these tie arms still for sale Dave? I think i need some after lowering my car.

    And this may sound stupid, but ive only ever seen rear tie bars for sale, how do i adjust the camber on the front wheels?
