Hopefully... looking to start work on the car early July although it really depends on Bill's upcoming unit move which as yet has no date...

Not done the stereo gear as yet, its one of those things that I can just live with atm so not got the motivation to do but I will try and get it all done for Audi's in the Park..

Me too... really want to do a run with it in its current state then see what benefit the 60mm pipe work and large port actually do make

Always been tempted to see if a throttle body setup, with a custom plenum, could be made to work well with a turbo.....

    Cos that would be slow.....

I have started tickling the inlets.. all I have done is get rid of the cast lines and opened ports 3 and 4 a little as they are much smaller than the gasket for some reason than port 1 and 2... not planing on doing much more to it though other than clean all the old carbon out...

Not sure, I did say I wouldn't go big turbo and look where thats got me!! LOL... I doubt I will go top mount due to funds... other tweaky mods such as the 60mm charge pipe and creating a cold air feed are fairly inexpensive in comparison plus I still like the fact my engine bay looks standard... the only other major mods planned are a SEM inlet mani and some sort of decent clutch setup (I still can't work out what to go for)...

Pretty sure I will stick to the turbo setup I have and just try stuff to get the most out of it while keeping the look of the engine bay as std as poss... the car drives really nicely so not really looking to change that...

Funny you should say that... we fitted the one from his Ibiza to the 'build' engine today as the top mount manifold for the Mk Golf he is doing turned up

Looks good but hasn't persuaded me... I may go external gate on mine though as an evolution, will see what the large port does power wise which I have finished doing some work on today ready for when I can actually get my arse in gear and get the head over to the engineering shop for a skim and new valve guides...

As an aside, I have also decided on what clutch I am going to try... OEM cover plate (LuK one), dual mass flywheel (again, LuK) and a Sachs paddle plate...

Not sure when I will do this though but if I have the money spare I'll look to get it done when I fit the large port...

LuK complete clutch is 150 and an LuK dual mass flywheel is 276 on Euro Carparts, don't know if I can get the cover plate separately as yet but will be paying my local GSF a visit and haggle a decent price on those bits... as for the Sachs paddle clutch plate, I am not sure as yet as I can't find a supplier... I will post up when I have a bit more info...

For the record, this clutch setup was being used in a TT quattro with a BT conversion running just over 400bhp... the owner runs the car on the drag strip and says it held up brilliantly... normal road use is more on/off than an organic clutch bite stands up to launching by all accounts so hoping this will be a jack of all trades which will suit my application.

How much would a manifold cost for that fitment.

I have been looking at a GT3076r though, there is one available with external gate and compact comp housing like mine... would mean essentially a new turbo, manifold (same design but T3 rather than T25) and an external gate plus tweakage of down pipe to accommodate the wastegate (no, I am not having a screamer before it gets suggested)

I am still happy with the installation of my setup and once the head is on (which is now in the boot of my car so I can drop it off at the machine shop some time this week) then I will have some more flow capability... may have to upsize the injectors too I suspect but will get the current setup done first...

As an aside, went to GSF today and got some prices for the clutch... 200+vat for the dual mass flywheel and 95+vat for the clutch kit (cover and plate). They even listed the Sachs paddle plate but sadly had no stock and didn't have a price so will have a word with Bill about getting one..

In keeping with my build thread, heres a short tutorial on how I did it...

    1) Drive to GSF...
    2) Park car...
    3) Get out of car...
    4) Walk to GSF entrance... and enter through door...
    5) Ask nice gentleman behind counter for a price on an LuK DM flywheel for an S3
    6) Nice gentleman says 200+vat sir

...sorry mate, one of those days at work LOL...

I must admit I was a little stunned but the bloke I normally deal with wasn't there at the time and I can usually get a decent deal off him so I will be returning at some point next week when I go to pick up my head from the engine builder just round the corner from GSF and see if I can get it down a bit ;P

Just dropped the head off to Cotswold Engine Reconditioners and Bob (nice bloke) gave it a once over and suggested that its usually only the exhaust guides that need changing as these wear the most (there was a lot of movement when he tried one of my new supertech exhaust valves in each guide) and the inlets were fine (checked those too). He checked the head for signs of warping and found nothing so no skim needed....

All good news, just the exhaust guides need to be replaced and the machining of the tensioner pulley mount to be done... should be able to pick it up at the beginning of next week...

Moral of this story is that exhaust valve guides take a hammering and this head did have some mileage on it (over 100k but don't know the exact figure) so if you are looking at getting a large port head for your own big turbo conversion then its worth getting these things done...

Should be in the region of 80 + vat to get this work done...
