ok i've recently got my hands on a a3 quattro with 88k on the clock, chuffed with it so far but! the bloke i got it off said that the cam belt had been done by himself, he was a mechanic, abd said that he had all of the recepts etc, well the car runs sweet as a nut, but! looked through all of the service history reciepts etc and nothing about a cam belt. i think i've been had :keule:

so i'm going to change the cam belt and was wondering how difficult it is to do yourself? i'm good with mechanics so dont see why i couldnt do it myself?

new oil all round including haldex (is this possable without a ramp or pit?)

new spark plugs, brake pads.

is there anything else i should look out for?

cheers

I'D get a specialised garage to do it then if something goes tits up and it snaps you should be covered by them. If your doing the Cambelt do the water pump to.

I just had the cam belt and water pump done on mine, cost me £200 beans. I would rather pay £200 and have peace of mind....

Yea the Waterpump is well worth doing when you do the Cambelt. If you do an engine oil change make sure you get the top fully symp stuff :) Not the longlife oil.....and grab fuel and oil filter for a small expense.
And as said below, Its better to spend £200 to get it done by a garage but if you got good mechanical hands then it maybe worth doing it yourself.
Either way good luck :)
