Grinding Noise

Hi all,
I am new to this forum and was wondering if someoine could be of help.
I have a A3 1.8T and when I lift off I hear a grinding noise and there is a vibration coming throught the clutch pedal!!
Any ideas as to what it is?

Does the sound go with engine speed or road speed?

it goes with the engine speed, when i'm decelerating.

Does the sound dissapear if you put the clutch pedal in?

it goes when I fully depress it - I feel the vibration coming through the clutch pedal

Okay doke, just wanted to make sure it wasn't to do with the gearbox wheels or engine.

If the clutch bites okay and the car drives alright except for this noise, then it sounds like a dry or split release bearing.

Unfortunatley this means the box has to come of to fix it. Probably worth doing the clutch at the same time.

BTW, don't take my word as gospel, and get a second opinion on this.
