I paid nearly double (including VAT) about 4 years back when I had a 1.8T. This was in London at a VAG specialist. I think the going rate for the 1.8T's nowadays at a reputable specialist is around what you've been quoted.

Er that's rather cheap if it includes a new dual mass flywheel, the part price from Audi for the flywheel is over Ł400 on it's own (or was when I checked a few months ago).

why not upgrade the clutch to something that can take a remap or a bit more abuse.
Southbend do some fantastic clutches for the 1.8t.
The US Vortex guys have been using them on A3/A4 chassis cars for years.
I have one, about 10 guys on the A4 forum here have them. bulletproof.

you can choose the dualmass option or a single mass option
run in different stages with increasing clamping strength.
Anywhere from Ł250-350,they do OEM DM flywheels too.
stock unit can be replaced pretty cheaply but I would always go better with a job like that

PM me for details of the clutches, I ditribute in the Europe at between 10-15% off the web prices

JCB sent you a pm, if i don't upgrade will a standard clutch be able to cope and be as reliable with the extra power from the remap.

i've been looking for uprated clutches but found nothing the VR6 combo don't sound to bad. Is it a straight swap as i'll be getting a garage to fit it. Is there any other options for uprating it.

clearly need to pay more attention... I'm almost definately going to be getting a new clutch and flywheel from one of the below unless someone can clearly show me a better option! All of the people I've spoken to in the UK for an S3 clutch and single mass flywheel have been either on the funny pills for price or just don't have a clue!

    replied.

they are all pretty similar in price for relevant comparisons.
034 do some great stuff but the Spec flywheels and clutches have had some horror stories, especially on big power turbo applications (rivet coming out of the flywheel plate, springs coming out of the pressure plate, very high wear rate...do some searching and you will find some nasty pictures) sure there are horror stories for all makes, I just came across a lot for spec.

Well had my vr6/G60 combo fitted its really light and bite point is near bottom.
But the bloke in the garage thinks that the dual mass option would of been better.

Can anybody tell me why they developed the dual mass flywheel. I mean it must be better why add risk and weight to something that is..well a solid piece of metal?
Imola S3 looks normal but isn't

I had a really low pedal, which got worse after fitting a solid flywheel. My clutch fork failed. It split and wouldn't work the clutch at all.

    My thread
    Nasty clutch noise

I would encourage anyone doing a clutch on a 2wd car to budget for fitting a new fork with the clutch. It was 44 AUD which would be 20 quid.

    Gavin
