Help pressed clutch and pedal stayed on floor!!!!

Hi everyone,

was driving today and when I pressed the clutch it stayed on the floor and I now have a small plastic thing and a piece of metal on the floor.....

Firstly what is broken? Is it common? Where do I get another and is it gona be expensive?

Also how hard is it to change yourself?

Are early (1999 s3s) cable clutches as I would assume the plastic thing looks like it would hold a cable or something?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the bracket on the pedal that holds the end of the clutch cable.
If you're RAC they should be able to do you a temp fix (they did on my old car) and let you get home, or to a dealer.
If a remember correctly I needed a new clutch pedal assembly and cable.... don't recall it costing too much!

This happened to me. required a new clutch pedal. It's quite common apparantly however they said it was due to issues with clutch which requires replacement.

Paid £110 for new clutch pedal (local place)

Quoted £500 for new clutch (Audi specialist) which is very reasonable (asked on here). However they found out it was the Master Clutch Cylinder that required replacement but not got car back yet to find out price. This meant the clutch pedal was encountering resistance when being pressed, thus this force broke the pedal.

They are hydraulic , so no cables
Put it does break that clip
May be a new clutch pedal and the 2 pieces (IIRC) of plasic will be required
Check the Master cylinder too

Hi couple of questions,

would an a3 clutch pedal do the job from same era?

Would you get it welded before replacing it?

Where can I get the 2 plastic clips from without using the stealers?

Same thing happen to me 2 week ago. My pedal encountered some resistance when being pressed and broke. You will need a new clutch pedal and the master clutch cylinder. From what my mechanic showed me the pin in the cylinder bends and can't be re-used.
The parts are fairly cheap but it's the labour as you need to gain access from behind the engine bay. I paid £190 all in. Also been told to change my clutch!

Cheers, will change it tomorrow as my local Audi garage had it all in stock ( surprise) and hope its not the clutch cylinder thats gone... Will let you know.

So the pedal and clips sounds quite straight forward except for the lying on your back for an hour? Any tips for changing the pedal and clips before tomorrow will be appreciated.....

yeah my clutch pedal broke, while in Manchester, ******* with rain & I live towards brighton, it was a bitch to replace as it has a nicely positioned spring with a fulcrum like fitting, but with patients & time it can be done & some strength to push the spring & locator in place, the problem with the pedals is the small welded plate on front of pedal that the white plastic sits in & the ball joint for the metal rod, as the welding was **** it usually breaks of & the rod can just push through the pedal, good one audi, notttttttt

I drove away with bruises galore & cuts all over my arms but I got it done, thank feck for that & luckily audi had a pedal in stock round the corner, lol.

happened to me 3 weeks ago -day before my remap. bought a new pedal thinking I could fix it, however slave cylinder had gone also and had to take it into the money grabbers.

if you're slave hasn't gone and it's just the pedal, good luck with the spring!!!!!!

Yeah ****** good luck with the spring, I mean I did it but what I went through to do it was unreal, but guess the adrenaline of stuck 300 miles away from home helped, lol.

Looking at the info, this may explain why my cruise control has stopped working. Car is still at garage so can't check the CC sensor, but lets say this is damaged - will it be easy to replace?

There is a sprung loaded switch on a pedal that also works in conjunction with the CC so yes this will stop working aswell its a cut of switch so as soon as the pedal moves it tells the car to go back to manual & of CC, its a simple switch that just pushes into the pedal metal hole & twists to lock in place, it might need adjusting again when the pedal is fixed which is easily done by pulling the rod out of the socket, you will see what I mean.

Ok just removed dash bit to get better look ,and the master cylinder metal push bit is bent!!! Dohhh.... Does this mean its knakered? hence why the pedal snapped?

Where would I get another from if it is and and what kind of job is it to fit and bleed? ****** knightmare already............

Guess who? Me ha ha, most normal people are prob at work but im at work 3-11 today dohh..... Anyway got in touch with GSF and got 1 delivered for £35( not bad)

My mate is gona help me fix it and extra weld the new pedal for piece of mind too.....

Just really want tips for removing, replacing and bleeding the master cylinder?
