Victoria Concours my dear chap (obviously applied bare handed as per instruction)!

My car as a result afterwards was very very dark, i know it sounds strange, but you of all people know that when a car is full of swirls it detracts from the colour of the car, this wax made my car a stunning shade of deep purple/blue/black depending on the light that was reflecting off it. Sunlight made it blue, purple and in artificial like it looked purple/black.

Such an underestimated colour in the flesh on a freshly detailed and well groomed car. :D

It's back to swirl city now though, i've neglected it somewhat. So back with the Rotary and some Menz products. The new product line they have (just come out) looks spankingly nice. I'm about to place an order on CYC! :p

Not sure if i should try the Menz pads though. They must be good as everything else they do is. Any thoughts to pads? Used Sonus SFX 1/2/3 and they are very good, but they have a 4 out now and i'm not sure which ones to get. Might buy them all....pad whore, i like it! :p

Cheers for the comments!

G

I know what you mean, Mr G. It was a great colour.. (Is it actually 'ming' blue??)

The above 1.8T in Steve's post, is my old old car! The top image I took a couple of days after I'd corrected it, but, for the life of me cannot remember what it was 'wearing'.

Still, a lovely colour (when freshly groomed as you say :) )

Jim,

Well i've yet to check the colour code in the boot (think thats where it is).

What i don't get though is that my car seems more sparkly than other mings i've seen. It's only had paint on the bonnet and wings, as i checked with a paint depth gauge. All the rest is original.

You can't even tell its had paint, my eye for detail is much like yours, you'll notice even the smallest imperfection on anything. It really does annoy me sometimes, gets to me in ways i wont begin to say. Wish i was like everyone else and didn't notice imperfections. It always costs money when something isn't right.

Below are a few more pics of the car during my detail in 2008 over christmas.

Good on you Steve. I must admit, I've come along way since detailing the 1.8T :)

Have you got any recent 'full car' pictures to post up?

Mr.G, nothing wrong with a bit of Autoglym! ;) Granted, there is nicer stuff out there, but I still often grab SRP/EGP off my shelf for a quick protection detail..

Steve, hmm.. Dodo Juice maybe? Try your hand at using Dodo Limeprime - it contains some mild-abrasives, so, will clean up any light swirling quite nicely. It's a pre-wax cleanser, you'll be good to go with a wax after this.. and, whilst on the Dodo subject, why not grab some Purple Haze Pro? (their new soft wax (I believe??)) Will look nice on the dark paint.. Failing that, supporting G's post from earlier RE Victoria Concours. Another nice wax to use, and, looks the part on dark cars.

Jim:

While i take on board what you are saying with SRP/EGP, they are only good for quick details. Maybe for cars who require a lot less work!

Personally I think that SRP just masks problems that are there, false economy and the only person you are fooling is yourself, or say if I work on someone elses car, I wouldn't be doing any favours to that person. EGP is so watered down that given a few days without any extra products used it's pointless as its non existent after this period. I spent sooooooo much money on AG products and have ever product they ever made, loads of it too. As soon as I found swissvax (swissol at that time) and then later on Detailing world that was it. No more AG.

I'm not saying they aren't good for those who wish to just keep a mediocre appearance with their cars and not go to "anal" over the finish and go out for a full extensive detail with paint correction.

You wouldn't be a detailer if you didn't have a passion for cars and the finer details and products which surround your profession. I've seen as most i'm sure have what you are capable of and you are a true professional at what you do.

You can't therefore tell me you like using products to mask problems rather than removing them. Cause i'd say you were lying if you did :D

Perhaps i'm too narrow minded and need a more broad approach but i'll say this, whenever i've used AG products i've always ended up with a mediocre finish which lasts a few days then once the rain hits, it looks far worse than when i started. That is why i'll never buy any AG products.

Just my view & opinion on it Jim, based on personal experience, doesn't mean to say i'm right (but I am in my own head - LOL ) :)

G

lol that's very understandable and, it makes sense. I don't like to 'mask' the problems, no. Offering Paint Correction is GREAT, but, very often it is just not visable (in one way or another..) It's an option.. it's tick's 'a box' for some people wanting that "full hand polish" and 'wax'. But, looking back, suggesting it here for Steve, no, you're right. Probably wasn't the best advise given.. (bearing in mind he's an enthusiast, not just someone who wants a 'clean car')

meh, I'm waffling now.. but, I hear what you're saying 100% :)

Heres a couple of pics jim,i need to get some good pics really tho.ill do that once i have fitted the coilovers.
Jim i have sorted the prob with the passenger door to now :).
I have also found out that the front passenger side wing has been resprayed at some point.

eh eh eh, what a beeeast!! :)

News to me that, the painted wing! (I wouldn't of had the paint depth guage back then, so, pretty oblivious really!

The door, had it dropped slightly? I know one of my two A3s had that issue.. just, not sure which one.. (if not both!!)

Looking good. Anytime you're over my way, give me a shout! I'd love to see it again.

Yeah i went to audi about getting the little bit of rust coming on the drivers door at the bottom to see if it could be done under warrenty and he did a check on the paint with some kind of electric depth gauge.
Yeah its going well mate, ive just gave it a engine service and its had its 3rd oil change since i bought it off you!..
Next thing is to get some coilovers and uprate the front brakes to S3/TT ones.

Totally standard.
Will be getting a 25mm drop and 10/15mm spacers soon to make it sit right. I don't think I can resist the temptation to have the Custom-Code Stage One, Green panel filter and Forge DV done first though...:icon_thumright:

Here she is folks, I'm 3rd owner from new, genuine 56k miles on clock. Currently completely standard apart from TT RS4 alloys. AP coilovers on order and REMAP at RSD booked in for next week. I have another set of wheels lined up for her so these ones are for sale!!!!!

Pearl black paint, Piano black inserts, BOSE stereo upgrade, auto dim rear view mirror. Now the S3 is my weekend car I can afford to spend more time/money on her, so will be carrying out obligatory upgrades, Forge recirculating valve, TIP, etc.
