I have had a problem with my S3 since October 06!! The back end felt like it was locking up. Was misdiagnosed by Audi Hitchin twice. Haldex Diff!! And then the Controller. It's been to 4 different Garages One was a Diff specialist who gave the best info and price! Only charged me £50 to swap a second hand Diff over. He advised that the fault was not mechanical but was electronic. After 5 Months the car going from garage to garage the car went to Vagtech near Milton Keynes they diagnosed the fault to be a faulty ESP Control unit, a second hand one was sourced and I finally have my car back running sweet as a nut!! Can not believe it's been off the road so long. So thanks to Vagtech I am back behind my understeering mean machine LOL (getting the suspension sorted once I have some money again!) I can not recommend John and Greg at Vagtech enough really friendly lads, and really know their stuff!!

Just to add there were no error lights or codes hence why no one knew what was wrong with her.

It's like buying a new car having her back!! :hubbahubba:

LOL John was telling me about your car when I called them ;)

Don't think it'll be one he'll forget, especially with me bugging him all the time!! Top Bloke!

My brother's been having the same problem with his Golf 4Motion. VW has told him he's got a faulty rear diff, a local garage diagnosed it as faulty haldex ecu. VAGCOM shows no errors either just like with your situation, sometimes the AWD address comes up in red with "can not access" message (or something very similar). He's got only front wheels working, rear not engaging.

I think i'll send him this link and get him to check out the guys who sorted out your problems. Btw, do you know what cause your problem? I know with my brother his engine mount boke and the engine dropped a few cm so he thinks it might be from that (but its a wild guess, no evidance to support this).

Mine happend over night, Pakred car up, next morning had the problem. Had same thing with Audi suggesting this that and the other if i had all the work done at Audi my bill would have been exess of £5K Diff £2.5k Controller £1100, they then suggested it was my Suspension causing a problem and qouted £1800 for that, and even after all that the car would not have been fixed!!

Get your Bruv to give them a call say "S3 Jay" recommend you!! they'll get it sorted. and there prices i found were very good value for money.

Thanx for that mate, VW told my brother he'll need a new rear diff so he got one on a very good deal from ebay (http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=35429&highlight=diff) but from the sounds of things that might not be needed at all... :motz: (lol)

Ok well, i'll give him the info today, cheers again

Is the ESP Control Unit the same as the Haldex control unit? or is it something totally different?

ESP Control Unit also controls the ABS so is bolted to the ABS Pump.

Has he had the Diff fitted yet??

Guys i'm having second thoughts on how good VAGTECH are!!... I dropped the car off last Tuesday, called in on wednesday and they said they'll look at it thursday then give me a call back. The call never came through.

Just called them now to ask what's been happening and while the guy was getting greg on the phone i could hear them going
".. what silver vr6.."
"... the one that came in last tuesday and we haven't had a chance to look at.."
".. oh just blag something..."
".. you blag something, you're much better than me.." :wtf:

then greg came on the phone and said "HII MATE! YOU ALRIGTH... haven't had a change to look at it, will look at it today and call u back.."

I didn't say anything (normally i'd go "BLAG SOMETHINGN TO ME!") instead just "ok u sure you got my number" (since i have no freaking choice)

Doesn't sound professional to me at all.. I really hope my car is in safe hands...
any comments on how reliable greg and vagtech are would be more than welcomed. Im still keepin the car there though for a while since my hands are tied and i have no choose, but i hope they're not having fun with it instead of trying to fix it...

Thinking twice about it, eventhough they were saying "blag something", they actually told me the truth... they told me they haven't touched the car and will look at it later on. Jusy called them and apparently they looked at it last night and are working on it right now (still hopefull, but i guess i wasn't meant to hear any of the other stuff)...

Sorry to hear that mate!! What you heard was not very good customer service atleast they were honest with you.

Greg really does know his stuff when it comes to VAG cars, they'll get it sorted!

Keep us posted.

... I feel kinda bad about what i said lol. True they said it, but true they didn't lie to me on the phone. I pooped by on Friday and the guys are really safe. They've got part of the problem fixed and Greg seems to be one of those guys that wouldn't let go of something unless he's fixed it.

I did some research on Jon and Greg and they are both 100% so even though my car is still there and being fixed, i'd definitely recommend them.

p.s. when i say the problem was partly fixed, this is what happened:
All oils were changed (transmission, engine, haldex [inclu. filter]) and the 4wd worked on 1st 2nd and cut off on 3rd. Greg reckons it might be the haldex coupling, i have a whole S3 rear diff lying around (incl haldex parts) so i dropped that off on friday and waiting to see what happenes... will keep you guys updated but with short posts cause dont think its right to hijacking this post :icon_thumright: (a bit late lol)

Glad to hear things are getting sorted!!

no worries about hijacking, its all abouts cars so i don't care!!

Lets hope you get that call soon!!!!

Update: it's been 3 weeks since i gave the car in, i've mentioned everytime i called in that i have to pick the car up by friday 20th. Just called Vag Tech, they are in the process of fitting the rear diff (which i dropped off last friday).

I'm kinda disappointed because i mentioned that i haven't tried the diff before and i have to take the car tomorrow and they are really cutting it fine with time. If the rear diff I supplied doesn't work, it would have been better to know that start of the week, not the day before  ... 'sigh' anyway. I have no choice but to wait and see... (my fingers are hurting from keeping them crossed for so long)

I guess it's ok to cut it fine with time if you're a pro... and Vagtech are. I got my car yesterday and everything's working again :hubbahubba:

Thanx guys for getting my in contact with VAGtech, i swear without them the car would still be running on 2 wheels till the end of its life.

Respect to Greg and Jon... all the way
