2000 S3 alarm probs.

The alarm in my S3 goes off totally randomly. Can happen once a day or considerably more often -my neighbours are getting angry!

I DID have the rear washer fault, but I spent a lot of time fixing that and drying it all out -not that.

The interior sensors are not to blame either.

Someone mentioned something about a backup battery for the alarm which is under the sub-woofer in the boot. If that's knackered, could this cause the problem?

Anyone else have any good ideas?

Oh and also... Wouldn't mind knowing how to find out what CAUSED the alarm to go off. I don't have a VAG-COM, so that's not an option. Is there another way?
