Bought the car earlier this as part of a mid life crisis and being sick of the depreciation in new cars. The car developed a couple of little niggles so I searched and found this site

Firstly thank you to all who have posted build threads and offer advise - the stickies and search have been great and other than that I have not needed a lot of help - the only issue is that I have to stop looking at this site as I keep wanting to spend $$.

So far all that has been done is what I see the norm

Month 1 - Forge DV008, Badger 5 Tip and Clutch switch from Bill. Car going better and I am starting to get sucked in

Month2 - New Clarion Head Unit - Wanted Bluetooth for the phone. I wired with harness and definitely sounding better but could not stop the popping and too far to get a new Sub from Andy Mac. Playing around found that the popping was coming from the BOSE sub and that if disconnected then no popping. So opened up the sub to see how it is wired found a tiny amp.

So Gone

And replaced CD changer with AMP for the Sub

Sounds great and no popping. just need to Dynamat the factory sub box.

Gone - replaced by 1 x 4mm hose
More to come IMG 0384

Best idea to stop spending money is to let your mrs have the password to login here and only ask her for it if you need to look up a solution to a problem. My car build went mental about a year ago and I've spent a small fortune, and there are much bigger, better, and more expensive builds then mine :faint:

Not Wrong. Initial plan was to follow Westy and just build a reliable fun daily drive - But I have had to stop following his thread.

Then take the car to my mechanic friend who did our version of MOT and then showed my his 4WD dyno that I had never noticed hiding in the back and some of the work he has done on Golfs and this car has potential to go down a dangerous road

Next issue was the temp started to drop of 90c - replaced thermostat - main item to do this job was a 1/4" drive socket to get on the the bolts. Had a bigger issue releasing the radiator hose from the plastic piece to the stat. many years of being in one spot.

At this stage sick of missing lines in the DIS screen - found a business in Melbourne that would replace the old one for me. So waited till I had a trip and did not need the car - posted the instrument cluster Monday and had it back on Wednesday

Then the dreaded rough idle started. Identified the famous "y" piece as having a crack in it due to being "touched" when the B5 Tip was added. Made a temporary bit up with a t piece till I could replace the PCV system

so removed all this - I find it hard to believe that this mess of hoses has been effectively replaced by 1 hose....

Used the IE billet adapter for the crank case and rocker cover breathers

As these fittings have a 10an outlet . So emailing Saikou Michi decided to use the catch can as a t piece and had a can made with 2 x 10an inlets and 1 19mm outlet. The thoughts where less connections so less leaks

Can in its temporary location - need to make a bracket and I could not get it to fit behind the TIP .

Results - fantastic. car idles smoothly, pulls harder and the brakes seem to even work a little better.

Yes going down the slippery slope and looking at DPs before I get it tuned now it is running well

Decided to go with the Relentless DP - emailed direct as it did not seem right to have it go half way around the world - Should be on its way soon so will post pictures once it is here.

lol i know how you feel, my A3 was almost free, yet the engines out, its having a KO4 and an engine overhaul i really didnt mean for that to happen lol

Woke last night to the alarm going off for no reason. Looks likes it needs to come out and the Batteries changed. I have scheduled this for a further fix but it looks like some late night fun tonight.

Have been communicating with relentless over last week and have ordered a relentless DP. Hopefully the journey to OZ will be a swift. Looking forward to the change it will make as every thing else that I have done as been positive for the car.

Evening of fail looking for the alarm horn. Followed Westy's threads and all was going too well, removed boot lining, removed sub, removed central locking unit - now the issue No alarm horn just a stop light bulb. So I set the alarm off and following the noise the alarm appears to be under the scuttle panel between the wipers. A bit of research and it appears a few others have the alarm here as well. Need a puller to get the wipers off so it will have to wait till I can organise.

:lmfao: bad luck bud.

Yes gone straight past that sign - but the car is definitely going better.

3" DP on the way and car booked in next week to hit the rollers for its first map :sm4:

AS with a lot of others the relentless DP with sports cat is on the car. Dealt directly with Relentless and DP was ordered on a Thursday and arrived in Australia on Tuesday. Initial impressions where that well made and welding looked good

As looking at mappping car for the first time had my mapper install the DP. he initially thought 2 -3 hours and told me took just a little over this. They cut the old pipe and dropped the subframe

Took Tuffty's advise and did not use the supplied copper gaskets and used OEM Gaskets for the Turbo to DP and High temp sealant for the DP to cat join. Amazingly Audi Australia had the gaskets and they only cost A$19

DP sits a fraction lower and misses everything and the exhaust tips sit slightly further out - Now no exhaust vibration when the motor cold and actually sounds quieter up to about 4,000 RPM - I think that I had a slight leak around the old cats. Over 4k the exhaust note now has a nice tone to it, even with the standard rear section.

No light on the Dash with O2 sensor installed fully but they told me that they will probably code this out next week

At the same time I had changed to the yellow string in preparation for the Map and car is pulling better through the rev range so all good. With be interesting to see the readings once it goes on the Dyno next week both before and after.

Hi for all you with more wisdom than me. getting a Map put on the car and it keeps doing some funny stuff and just will not run with the Map. Also have issues getting the car to talk to Vagcom unless the dash fuses are pulled ??:wtf:

car - AMK 2001
dp - Relentless with sports car
DV - 008 yellow spring
TIP - B5
N249 delete
catch can vented back to tip
new MAF
new fuel filter & pump
INstrument cluster - new DIS
Clarion headunit - nothing wired into the 'kline' connector

New stat & sensor - but it appears to be playing up - goes up to 90 but drops when on motorways - my thoughts need to do the stat again.

car has very slight rough idle but on standard map runs and pulls well

has thrown the following fault codes

5 Faults Found:

18058 - Powertrain Data Bus
P1650 - 35-00 - Missing Message from Instrument Cluster
17978 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer
P1570 - 35-10 - - Intermittent
17524 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating; B1 S1
P1116 - 35-00 - Open Circuit
17511 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating; B1 S1
P1103 - 35-00 - Performance too Low
16885 - Vehicle Speed Sensor
P0501 - 35-00 - Implausible Signal

Readiness: 0110 0100

The first two and last errors will be as the dash fuses have been removed to get it to talk to vagcom.

Any thoughts and comments appreciated

Cheers Sevv,

pulled the O2 sensor and its 11 years old so probably it but will try cleaning all terminals you never know as that is one of the cheap fixes.

The ****** is that car is going really well on standard tune but when they put the map on it all the faults come to the surface.

I sent the instrument cluster to guy in Melb - posted in from Canberra on a Monday and he had it back in Sydney in Wednesday's mail.

His price included the return express post

Think he gives a 12 mth warranty

thanks mate, well i changed both my O2 sensor in the begining of the year i think they are worth 180pounds for both i got them from the UK [awseomegti] they are genuine bosch from the dealer so its not too expensive in case you need to replace compared to 360-390 ea. from the dealer here in Aus.

Thanks - was looking at ECP but they do not seem to have a Bosch one -

btw wat r u doing aake at ****** 3:30am lol..(my excuse is work)

Its been awhile - Sevv thanks for the offer - went OS for holiday

Checking over the car found split in braided hose to FPR from the manifold so this would explain poor performance under higher demand. So out with the silicon

New O2 sensor for the DP.

Re read some of the other build threads and as a result had a shipment arrive from Badger 5 - thanks Bill

Car treated to new silicon on charge system
new injector orings
new fuse box on top of battery - one of the terminals had too much movement and was causing the fuse to arc => overheating and blowing.

So car running well so time to have it Mapped for the first time.

All went well this time and as others have said the car is totally different to drive. It was a wet day on on the drive home first time that I have felt that I needed more grip. If they had of come out like then I imagine that they would have sold a lot of cars.

For those who like pictures, logs of 4th run after the effects of not having a FMIC where starting to show -made about 162kw on the first run.

Nice! I like the carbon. Only thing I'm not sure on are the chrome mirrors and door handles. Perhaps colour coded? Each to their own though :) Nice one.
