    Question LCR Brembo dismantling help......

    Right, to cut a long story short the bridging brake lines that supply brake fluid to the other side of the caliper, well they are shot, on both calipers, had a very bad accident on my behalf .
    Anyway, i need new lines but can i f*** get the old ones out, i know the brake nipple is a 11m head but its like monkey metal, ive used penetrating fluid, blow lamp, mole grips, you name it ive tried it but the god damn nuts will not budge, its to the point theres hardly any material left to grab lol, their fused in.

    Any ideas on what to do to get them out?

    Ooh i like that one lol, so cut the pipe of flush then clamp it in best i can? Its not actually the nipple PT its the bridging pipe nut thats stuck.

    Same principle... more clamping force with the vice and more leverage... still take it easy though...

    Yeah i know what you mean, if that doesnt work i dont know what will, its like they've cold fused together, even mole grips wrapped around tight wont budge, just strips the nut.

    If your in no huge rush, chuck them in a bucket of diesel for a week. I do that every time I'm stripping a set of calipers. It frees all the bolts off nicely. If you go at the crossover pipe too hard, it tends to just rip the thread out of the caliper

    Argh thats a nifty trick! Does it damage the dust/piston seals though? Also does it strip the paint off?

    Doesn;t strip the paint, and hasn't damaged any of the seals that I've done

    Dan can you not get a socket on to them once you have cut the pipes? That's what I done

    I made/had new ones made up, very easy once you have the flairing tool and some 4mm copper tube! Mine were soaked in plusgas and they were not a problem with a socket. The old ones on mine looked tiered and I just wanted to get on with refurb and splitting down so I just cut them

    No jojo i dont have, its has its ups and downs but to be honest thats what makes me love amd respect my car even more, this car has been a massive learning curve over the last 3 years and to be fair i wouldnt rwally change it, apart from various twats damaging it lol, but all in all i love it all.

    Looks spot on dan and the ends of the tubes have already been flared, remember though you can't just bend the pipes with your hands as they'll kink. Easy way to bend them is to softly roll the corners on a socket. Take it slow and you won't kink them

    Use a blow lamp to heat the pipe before trying to bend it. Makes it a lot easier to do and go slowly at it using a bar to roll the pipe around and re-heating the pipe all the time. Had to do this only yesterday after damaging one of the pipes(sorry S3Dave after doing a great job on refurbishing the calipers).
    B5 v1 Tip, B5 Exhaust Manifold, Beach Buggy Hybrid, Pipewerx D.P and cat bypass, Miltek resonated cat back, AH Fabs v2 Intercooler, S2000 Filter, 83mm 9.5:1 CP Pistons, Brute Rods, Bosch 550cc Injectors, Oil Catch can, N249 delete, B5 Phenolic Gasket, Devils Own Water Meth Kit, Forge baffled sump.
    H&R Springs, Koni FSD Shocks, s3dave's rear tie bars, R32 ARB's, LCR Brembo's, 18" ttrs alloys, replaced all suspension bushes, 15/20mm spacers front/rear, Vibratechnics Engine Mounts.

    that's the kit i bought



    beware of the bolts that bolt the two halves of the caliper together though, they are a tad long...



    fouling the carrier bolts...




    i only bought the kit to replace the stainless pad shim bolts. The standard ones are also made out of chocolate and PITA to get out

    I still have the fluid transfer pipes in the garage i think from that kit if you want? Unless Dad has had a tidy.....unlikely

    How did you get around the bolts been longer mate? Also did ou use the bleed nipples from the kit?

    see the metal plates at the bottom of the calipers...



    these are the pad shims



    How did i fix the problem of the long bolts? ... used the old ones

    My brembos dint have them, do they come with the pads? Also did you use the new bleed nipples alex?

    no, they are part of the calipers. Yeah i replaced the bleed nipples - its advisable. But again be careful, i think the bleed nipples and other bits are made out of chocolate to make cross threading the aluminium calipers difficult - the threads of the fixings will cross thread before the caliper internal threads. Problem with this is that the fixings have a habit of shearing i have seen - i was lucky though

    are you doing a complete teardown?

    Right, so was wrestles and nipped into the garage.

    The brembos do have shims, its just their that black you cant seem them at first glance lol.

    Secondly, i know why the pissing pipes are so hard to remove, i did the trick or socketing them and blow lapping them at the same time, once out i saw that the previous twating owner had ****ing cross thread the fittings, ****ing spunk monkey.

    So half the threads intact but the rest is mush, whats my options? What this helicoiling is it? Heard of this used before when people have said sumets cross threaded etc.

    the cross threaded thread is drilled out so the hole is slight bigger and then you wind a helicoil into the hole which is just a helical coil (obviously ) which matches the thread of the original threaded hole

    I have read that a helicoil is stronger than the original too because of the way the torsional force is distributed - maybe rubbish though

    i would find a local machine shop. I never had to helicoil mine though. I managed to get away with it. See if anyone else has an opinion on helicoils though as im not really qualified other than i know what they are

    Worst case you can buy bleed nipple inserts after you get the calliper retapped. Search on ebay for brembo bleed nipple insert.

    Mine were an absolute pain too, but luckily my threads were salvageable with new nipples

    Dani. Let me know if you manage to get new oil seals for the pistons as I was unable to get them when Dave was refurbing my calipers. Seat did not stock them on their inventory and Brembo would not sell them as they recconed it is a safety issue and will not sell you the parts only a new caliper. I have another set of LCR calipers sitting in the house and might refurb them also.
